911 Rekeying Kit (Tumbler Pin) Supply
Hi, I want to follow this pelican article to DIY rekey my 1988 Targa. However, I cannot find the tumbler pins supply. Can anyone help me find where to get it?
I found one on internaltionkeysupply. But they canceled my order because they only take orders from dealerships or locksmiths. Thanks! |

Would these work on the 81 in door alarm tumbler? I never received a key for it and would convert it over to the main door lock key, if it's easy enough.

google 'lock cylinder tumbler flags'
many companies sell to the general population |

Anyone with any mechanical ability can do lock work especially on older vehicles and by keeping the average Joe from obtaining certain parts makes your membership to the SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL LOCKSMITHS or ASSOCIATED LOCKSMITHS OF AMERICA seem valid or worthwhile. Hope there’s no locksmiths here!! If anyone has a reasonably priced source for springs and wafers I would love to know. |
I finally ask a local locksmith to order these particular pins (https://www.internationalkeysupply.com/products/asp-a-26-101-porsche-911-928-keying-kit).
He charged me $130 in total (He bought the pins and keep them. I send him the lock cylinder and pick up after rekeying). Not cheap but I've no choice. But rekeying causes other problems which are a bit annoying... I'll post another thread to list all tips and lessons learned. |
Too late for this but all those parts are made in China. If you search you should be able to find them from the source on AliExpress and they will sell to anybody.

I went through the same experience with International key supply. Eventually they approved my account because I have a business.
Although by the time they got around to that I had the doors re-keyed anyway. I purchased brand new door handles for Project Heavy Metal and between the old handles and new ones I was able to shuffle the different wafer sizes around and get my new handles keyed to the ignition key. |
I purchased a set on eBay for well under $100 back in 2018 to rekey my doors. Not a difficult job. Getting the cylinders out of the doors is what takes all the time.

FWIW - I have the ASP kit - brand knew with many key wafers. Used to rekey a door cylinder, will barter with anyone for a passenger side lock cylinder lever/finger for an 88 or later car.
|
Jonny - that is just how I did it when I decided I had to replace my chrome door handles with black ones. Tedious work, but not rocket science as long as you kept track of things
|
Walt - funny you should say that. I had two spare tumblers that I bought, and managed to rekey both of them successfully without the wafer kit. Nice to have the new wafers and will keep some spares, but will offer up the remainders and springs to those in need to just get my cost back.
|
Chris, do you still have that tumbler kit? Trying to get my keys in order on my 85'.
|
Sold it to John Bell. You might try reaching out to him. If you can buy a used locked set from a breaker, I actually did not need the kit to rekey. Just moved the wafers around. You might try that first?

I just re-listed these for sale in the parts classifieds

Yeah I thought about it, and seeing how tough these wafers are to get, I'm gonna give it a shot. Thanks Chris!
|
Not selling because you’re not a dealer or locksmith is ridiculous. It’s not like you’re buying the key set to the Royal Jewels in England.

Agreed! Just got done disassembling my glove box tumbler and I'm 2 away.... Might take my 20% loss in security and leave them out. Still have the doors to do, so I'll keep looking
|
I would happily cannibalize the glove box lock for wafers if I needed them for a door lock. Honestly, how many of us actually lock the glove box? I can't remember ever doing it, except to check if the lock worked.
