Available from dealers, curious to know cost. I’m going throw my bet out at $18,000.

A quick internet search by part shows the 3.2 case at $6,600. List is near $8,000.

rwest.not a bad price;-) i wonder if they will stamp it with your number you ask for? The cases back in the 1980 were without number and i did have some clients where police would asked them for the origin .......

abides.

If you read the Porsche Originale PDF they link to at the bottom of the page, it describes that the cases come blank with only a part number, and there is a "mounting kit" ($320) that somehow defines the engine type number.
Not great news for the aftermarket case suppliers, but i suppose they are going after a different market, and this looks like a very limited offering.

Forget the replacement 930 crate motor; I'll take one of the 962 engines!
Seriously, how much does it cost to rebuild a 930 motor? $20K? If Porsche can offer a freshly built one for $18-24K as guesstimated above, I can see a lot of people lining up for them. Way more than the 100 NOS case blanks they have lying around.

Kinda cool they are aiding longevity of their vehicles. I probably won't ever be a customer for a new case, but it is a good thing overall.

I was told you used to be able to get a used 962 engine for $35K and it was the hot ticket to go into your 911. Since the once that lived at our shop dynoed at 780hp (single turbo, air cooled heads) it must have been an E ticket ride.

With a good solid core engine, a full rebuild in the aftermarket can be 30 grand. With all new parts, I don't see it as under 40 grand even if Porsche ramped up production.
It is a lot different than a Chevy 350 small block. I bought a brand NEW crate 350 from GM for $1,700 delivered to my door. And it came with a 2 year 24,000 mile warranty! It is nice to see them making efforts to make some parts for our old car available. My understanding is that Mercedes can supply pretty much any part for any Mercedes. The price may be staggering, but it is there. Jay Leno said he needed a new window switch for his Mercedes 600 that is not electric, but Hydraulic. That one new window switch was 11 grand!

Awesome news from Porsche Classic.
With the 3D data at hand, they should be able to crank out these cases on demand using the CNC lathe. |

I heard from someone with connections that the price will be around $7,500
I hope so.

Interesting read.. I wondered when they would get around to doing this again.
I have one those original 3.2/3.3 blank cases that was bought over the counter from Porsche many years ago. I acquired it in a trade for other parts, as was indented to build a spare fire-breather EFI for my 930. Lol, still haven't got around to that!

The problem is they only have around 100 cases so I imagine with all the race teams that number will dwindle pretty fast at $7500 each. A used long block that needs to be rebuilt goes for more than that.

There was someone over on Rennlist who was trying to produce 964 blocks for $5000 each (due to Singer swallowing up every available running car and engine). The the effort has apparently stalled (see links below).
Sounds like Porsche is trying to head off aftermarket competition but they need to do better than to produce 100 units. Sometimes I feel like they aren't all that interested in supporting out-of-production cars; they prefer you to buy new. https://rennlist.com/forums/911-forum/1003184-i-am-making-reproduction-porsche-engine-cases.html https://rennlist.com/forums/964-forum/1132220-3-6-cases-will-be-available-for-pre-order-starting-march-14th.html
