Alternator/Regulator question
I am putting back together my 1978 930 and it seem the original voltage regulator is still installed and the car has a reman alternator with an internal regulator. I purchased the car as project and am trying to get it back together. I took the alternator to our local alt/starter rebuilder, tested, it’s not putting out any voltage, he cant get rebuild parts and need replacement. Now I feel like the rebuild guy is not so much a Porsche rebuild guy. Should I just buy another reman or try and repair the current one by replacing the VR? I am starting to go through the wiring and wondering if its possible that the previous owner could of left the external VR in place and just remove the circuit?

I'd find another rebuild shop. When you took the alt. out there should be one wire that was not hooked up to it. That would be the one that went to your external regulator. Black wire i believe.
