MFI Pulley Seal Leak
Many posts on how & what to do but I have thoughts and questions before proceeding.
Pressing in 2 seals seems like the easiest and maybe stops the leak but at the expense the inner seal pushing against the cam preventing oil flow. The bore is 14mm deep (mine measures 13.8/13.9) Pressing in 2, 7mm seals will most likely be in too far. Speedi Sleeve with flange measures 16 mm deep so also creates same issue. If I back out the sleeve flange 2/3 mm off the cam it doesn't allow much room to install the seal flush with cam carrier. I don't want to push the seal against that flange and have it spin so backing it off 2mm from that flange doesn't allow the seal flush to cam carrier. I don't want to do this again because the lip of the seal starts leaking after a few hundred miles. The Viton seal lip does fit tighter over cam than the OEM Porsche one which I special ordered so maybe that will work. Also, I have been greasing the shaft and seal lip while installing and I'm wondering could that grease prevent the oil flow and burning the lip? |

I did this several times and the Speedy Sleeve solved it. Go with that and stop overthinking it. This job sucks and you only want to do it once.

If the cam is new, no ridges, does the speedy sleeve do anything for you. Obviously tightens it up which may or may not be what you want in this case? A better surface?

In my case the cam surface was worn so the seal lip leaked.
The Viton seal maybe would have fixed this because it does provide a tighter seal and double lip. |
