Pass mirror wiring
I posted about this before but no response. The black wire in my passenger side mirror (83 cab), does not switch voltage like the blue wire does. I have continuity between the mirror and the trunk. The white wires pull the solenoid down to change direction of the motor. What I cant figure out after that is where the black wire goes after it leaves the front passenger side of the trunk. Everything heads up behind the fresh air blower.
The driver side works fine and I changed the joystick with a known good one and there is no difference. In the plug in the drivers mirror, black and blue are joined. Does black go from the drivers mirror to the passenger mirror? Help. |

After I stopped hearing from you I thought for sure you had this thing sorted out! When we last talked, I think you had continuity from the selector switch to the right mirror. I think the black wire runs from the selector toggle to the right mirror.

Yes, you helped me narrow it down to the black wire in the pass door. There is continuity and power from the switch to the blue in the pass door. Color in the pass door is blk, blue, brwnx2, white, grey green. All direction is controlled by white, black and blue. I have continuity from the trunk connector to every wire in the mirror. Blue behaves as it should by switching between +/- 12v in vertical /horizontal. White is 12v + in both vertical directions (up down) modes to trigger the solenoid. Black has nothing. If I ground out black in the trunk I get one horizontal or a vertical direction only which is consistent with the blue pattern. Im just trying to figure out where the black comes from. A blk and blue wire are connected in the drivers door plug.

Seems like black gets power from green. Green goes to the right/left selector and then feeds the black wire that goes to the left and right mirrors.

The selector switch has black yellow, green and blue. Blue goes to pass. Green is from the joystick, black yellow goes to driver. They are working.

It did a while ago when I was putting the mirrors back on the car.
I definitely have a broken wire in the driver door. Took the door apart today and can reach to where the cable exits the door. The thick insulation is broken and I have no continuity on the black wire. Quote:

I think about the only way is to take the door off the hinges. Another member was having the same grief with a broken mirror wire not long ago.

To all who may stumble across this post, there was in fact a broken wire in the door of my 83. In the drivers door mirror connector is a blue and black wire paired together, a black w yellow stripe a pair of joined whites 2 browns plus the grey /grn heater wire. The blue wire comes from the joystick switch. The black and yellow is from the side selector switch. Both the black and one of the whites, exit the driver mirror connector, through the door, through the two trunk connectors over to the pass side. In a newer car the directional switch is part of the joystick. By having that separate, the engineers had to figure some way to get the inputs across the car.
