Stolen 87 granite green metallic Carrera

hello,
my recently purchased 87 Carrera got stolen from extra space storage in Sacramento, CA. when I was abroad for a month (sometime after 9/8/21).
This is the listing of my purchase:
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1987-porsche-911-carrera-61/

I restored the wheels to black Fuchs, otherwise it looks just like in the photos.

If one of you has any tips on it's whereabouts, It'd be much appreciated.
Thanks,

Sorry to hear this as well, looks like it's becoming more common.

Was the storage facility able to find anything on their security cameras?

Best of luck to you with the search/recovery.

I hv used Extra Space Storage in CO and NC. I know first-hand that they record everything for a period of time. I’d ask the site manager to walk you through the recordings spanning your period and see if anything shows up. If not, it could also be an inside job.

Sorry to hear about your experience. I hope security cameras can help. FYI to others: I had previously been using a self storage facility in NC to store a car. I would alternate between keeping either my Miata or my older 911 there. Last spring, the unit was broken into. The perps sawed through the metal hasp that the lock goes through. Luckily, it was the Miata in the unit at the time and not the 911. They rifled through the car but didn’t take it. Security cameras were worthless. I have since abandoned the idea of using self storage and have heard of other local break-ins.

Stolen in NC

I live in NC.I have 6 911 cars but I leave a Doberman in the garage with live voice back into the house.A Dobie on full song sounds like a hound dog in heat.I am a crack shot as well and night vision is still very good.Ciao

Seems like thefts are increasing on these cars, it wasn’t long ago people were saying not to worry about it but now we need to keep a close eye on them like any other collector car. Hope you find it but chances are it’s long gone since you were away.

Unless there was a rash of thefts at all of the storage units I would say it was an inside job. The employee realized that there was a very nice car in there, and if you mentioned anything about taking a trip, an opportunity.

For sure I would see if the theft was recorded.

Sorry to hear of your loss, I hope it is recovered.

I kept a 911 in a storage unit for a while. Whenever I was there and I heard a car coming down my lane towards my unit I would pull the door closed. I didn’t want anyone to know what was in there for the reason you’re experiencing. I don’t even keep my home garage door open unless necessary, I’ve had my garage broken into many years ago.

I'm local. I don't remember ever seeing a car like that around, but that would be a long shot.
I'll pay more attention to Grey"ish" colored Porsches now.

I've had guys come down my driveway to try and buy my car. It is VERY difficult to see our garage from the street so that's a bit concerning. A guy showed up at the door trying to get my wife to let him take a look at it while I was at the office. Obviously was told no but still a little concerning. One guy (about 3 years ago) kept coming back and insulted me with his offer. I told him, in a firm but nice voice, stop wasting my time. I can't believe what cars identical to mine are bringing on Bring a Trailer these days.

He paid a lot of money for that car. Is this really what they are going for?

Yeah, isn't passing the sniff test so far. But has certainly made me look at my situation more carefully.

Lost my 1986 Black Black 930 Coupe in Montreal in 2002 to a thief. Very bad feeling when that happens. It was a sad ride back to NY for me with a friend who also went to the F1 Race.
Best of luck finding hope you had it insured well.

Price was reasonable and 100k less miles would be in the $50k range

@Hcoles, thank you for your link - it looks too similar to mine.
Anyone in Springfield new Hampshire could look at the car?
How easy is it to forge VIN numbers?

I would say if that car has documentation/pictures confirming the VIN and it doesn't match your car, then it's not your car. Not that many out there in that color.
