Sunroof Issue & Questions
I’m hoping someone here can give me some guidance on what may be wrong with my sunroof. First I’ll note that it’s a 90 964 so the mechanism should be the close or the same as the late 80’s 911.
The sunroof used to open and close without any issues until a few weeks ago. When I went to open the roof it stopped after moving back about 2” and wouldn’t go any further. I can hear the motor working but no movement. It closes without issue though, and I can freely open and close it about 2”. Anyone know what might be causing it to stop part way? I did some searching but couldn’t find anything related, just hoping someone has seen something similar. Thanks

Maybe the front white plastic slider clips are broken and the front edge of the panel catches on the wind deflector. Very common.

John thank you for the reply.
Is there an easy way to get access to these when the sunroof is stuck? I should also note that I did replace one of the black pieces that pulls the wind deflector down when the roof is being closed. That was broken when I got the car and an easy fix. Not sure if I could have messed anything up when installing it?

Update: John your assessment was spot on. I finally had a chance to take a closer look at the sunroof and sure enough the white piece is missing from the passenger side and the roof is hanging up on the black piece that helps lift the wind deflector. I guess that’s why it broke in the first place.
![]() I’m hoping I don’t have to remove anything to install it! Thanks again for the hint.

Update 2, Found that the white piece was actually still in place once I get everything apart but the piece that wraps around the outside edge of the sunroof was missing so it was catching in that area. I replaced the white plastic guide and the sunroof works beautifully again.
