911SC potential sale rant.

So recently I had a friend of a friend reach out regarding my 911SC. I had not thought about listing the vehicle I've been working on for the last 2 yrs, but with a recent career change....I entertained the idea. Fast-forward, the potential buyer came by to have a look and went on a spirited drive. We agreed on a price (about $8K less than my initial asking) given the fact he was willing to skip over any PPI. A date was set for this weekend for the final sale.

Within the last 2 weeks since the final agreement was made, the potential buyer had requested a lengthy Excel spreadsheet to be filled out detailing date, service, fluids & parts used, etc etc. I filled it all out including all supporting receipts & thought that was suffice (given a deal had already been made)

Over the weekend, the potential buyer now requested a PPI & compression test be done at his Indy shop an hour away from me. Again, we agreed on X price w/o a PPI....but again I agreed to entertain his requests....and since I work at a Porsche dealer, I thought a happy median would be to have a PPI & compression test done at my dealer since I wasn't willing to put my car in the hands of someone I didn't know nor was I willing to drive it through NE salty roads.

Apparently the cost from my Porsche dealership was too expensive for him, and he had asked if I was willing to drive up to his house & do a compression test ("for free aka me doing the work") so he would feel comfortable with the sale. I had to draw the line....and backed out of the entire deal altogether.....Am I being unreasonable here? I have linked my build from Pelican to him, sat with him for an hour showing all the receipts & work I had done while he was at my house....including filling out his excel sheets & sharing mine as well.....

What would Pelican do? Sorry for the rant.

IMHO. Seems like he is taking advantage of you. I would tell him that if he wants to proceed, you are adding $8k back to asked price for the unanticipated requests. See where he goes.

that's basically what I suggested. I mentioned we can start at square one....and get any PPI you request, but we would reset any negotiations.....his response was, "but I'm willing to give you our agreed price, but I just want to have a compression check for piece of mind"......to me it sounded like he wanted to have his cake & eat it too.

Just walk away from it. Might lose your friend if he isn't willing to accept the fact that his other friend negotiated a price without PPI and basically reneged.

Dude changed the conditions of the agreement, thus, he is now subject to your conditions, which includes "no car to you!"

thanks for the responses so far. I have been completely transparent on the entire build with him.....and since I've owned it, it has been an "open checkbook" build for me. I treat my cars like an adoptee....and initially thought he was the right owner, but come to find out....I think eventually this needs to go to a true air-cooled enthusiast who sees the value in the work done, not as an investment or resale perspective.

I'd stop too. You've already shown more patience than I would.

Walk away! For all of our sakes, dude might show up here on the forum

Seriously though, you don’t renegotiate terms that way and it sounds like the headaches would keep coming. You have already been more forthcoming than most

Keep the car if you can and enjoy it!

You’ll never hear the end of it from this kind of buyer, even after the sale. If it’s a “friend of a friend” it makes it hard to ignore.

High effort buyers with constantly changing deal terms are not worth it. Plenty of more reliable buyers for our cars.

I think you had more patience and showed more restraint than many of us here would have given a similar scenario, For what its worth; I think you did the right thing, hold onto it until the right person comes along, or as others have said don't sell.

unreal. you did the right thing.

There are very few decent SC's on the market today....better yet, wait until spring, you'll get that $8k back and more, I suspect. Your car is spotless, it'll find a good home.

On a different board and not about a car, I had an experience where the "seller" sold the item on ebay for more money after we had agreed on a deal. The response on that board to the way the transaction rolled out was "he was scum" "ignore him" " and "move on."

And I'll offer you the same advice. He was scum, ignore him, and move on.
