Muffler Strap too short by 3/4 inch
I am trying to install a Dansk 2 in 1 out muffler with 70mm chromed tip on my 1979 SC
I got the IRO strap Porsche # 901 111 157 04, but it comes up an inch short, and it isn’t on the car yet. Help desk here said it is the right part. Anyone else have this problem? I guess I can get a longer bolt, but would like it to fit.

Have you tried clamping them together to stretch or seat them better... sometimes they need a bit of force...

Mine are super tight as well. I have to zip tie them closer to get the threads started. Takes a little practice.

make sure that the lip on the bracket on the support is under the lip of the muffler.

Yeah, I just did this and it sucks. I used long bolts to close it and bend it into shape...Once I got it on...I just left the long bolts in instead of replacing them with the short bolts as I had initially planned...I think I may have stripped one, too. Good times.
Is the OEM version better...? |

Longer bolts work fine, a non-problem really.

I had this problem when first installing the Dansk 1-in-2-out (84 mm outlets) in my '87.
I found that by playing with the strap locations and "preforming" the bends I was able to get the OEM straps to work. I also agree with the other posters regarding longer bolts - the bolt in your photo looks shorter than the one used to secure the muffler in my 3.2. One other point: Are you sure you received the correct strap part? It is notable that for my 3.2 there are (2) different straps used: 930-111-175-00 (passenger side) and 930-111-159-00 (driver's side), per the Porsche parts catalog. I guess that is what you can expect when buying the IRO $15 muffler clamp, instead of the $75 NORMA one. But $2 and two 3 inch bolts did the trick, so $32 v. $150, I think I came out ahead. It is a shame that our host told me he had never heard the clamp was too short, the forum comes through!

Dansk mufflers are fatter than stock ones, and their lips are wider. Put the bolts inside, toward the engine or they will damage the valance next engine removal.

wrong bolt. Stock is a Hex. I use a longer one to get it tight then swap in the stock bolt.

Could be the wrong strap, There are two sizes, I bought two used from a Pelican member and one was too long to tighten up on my 77 with backdated muffler.

I seem to remember cinching it up with a longer bolt, then clamping it somehow (like with visegrips), removing the long bolt, inserting the OEM bolt. Large pain in the neck.

there are multiple part numbers for the straps. Ensure you have the correct ones for your application. Consult the PET diagrams to be sure. Longer bolts may or may not be the correct solution....
Cheers
