Someone clearly likes Zip Ties...
New to me 911Sc. Decided to clean up the engine bay today. Found what looks to be some kind of throttle linkage that has been Zip tied to keep it in place. Looked through Bentley and 660 page parts diagram with no luck.. Anyone chime in on what this is for.. defiantly needs to be replaced.. Cheers

The cruise cable retaining tabs beak off, so we ziptie like that to be sure it stays in place and doesn't come out of the bracket and hold the the throttle at 4000rpm.

Yea, as John said, the clips on the cable break, usually on just one side. It can look pretty secure, but don't trust that. Use at least two zip ties, and make sure they are tight. If the cable comes lose, it can cause a WOT or very high RPM situation.
That cable was not available at all for many years, but Porsche classic had some made up. They are an insane price, so unless you have a 100 point concours car, a few pennies worth of of zip ties will fix the problem. I love my cruise control for the many long trips I make.

Damon88 - looks like you are a new member here but fairly active based on your post count.
So you know, when John Walker responds to a thread - take it for gospel. He is one of the top notch experts on the forum.

Use safety wire instead, just as simple, much more robust - it'll last forever.

This reminds me, when I get my engine back in the car I need to put that cable back in and figure out why the cc wasn't working.
Glad to see I'm not the only bozo that had zip-ties there from the PO.

Now that I know what that cable and mounting bracket do, I will def keep an eye on it. Def don't want to deal with any issues at 4000rpm haha.

Heck, I’m only 5 not 71!

Yep, I’ve done the Spot ties on the cruise control throttle connection. Cheap fix for a possible safety issue.
The big question is does your cruise control work?

Yup. John's got it. Super common. I can't recall if I've ever seen a cable without them! They break *all* the time.

We rarely see a broken one in our shop percentage of vehicles wise. But we have seen it. They get broken when some person screws up trying to remove it for engine drop etc. They don't just break from normal wear and use... Zip tie is not the correct repair. It will "work" but not correct.... Cheers
