902/05 tranny?

Hi Guys,

I recently picked up a 901 tranny type 902/05.

Is anyone familiar with this tranny as to the gears in it etc.?

From what I've heard so far is that it's a heavier duty version of the 5 speed 901.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

5 = 4 cyl?
1 = 5 spd std ratio
9 = 1969
0852 = sequential number

Could this be a 914 box?

914 - The 4 cylinder trannies S/Ns are marked starting with letters (HA)

6 cylinder 914 tranny S/N is marked

750 0001

7=914/6
5=5 speed
0=year
0001 = seq

An 8 instead of the 5 is a sportomatic. A guess, the 1 would mean 4 speed.

I suspect it may be a 912 tranny, 4 speed.

Bob,
If this is the tranny you picked up for $100, then its off a 1969 912. My friend actually saw that tranny. Dont know why he passed on it because its still a 901 5 speed. So what if its off a 912, for $100, you cant go wrong with that! I think the only question would be the gearing.
Good Luck.

Thanks Guy's

I opened it up briefly today. It's a 5-speed. It looks to be in very good condition. The gears all look great. The dogteeth are all there. No metal residue. looked clean inside. I'll have to look closer and inspect it's gears to see what the gearing is.

Yeah Clint, This is the tranny that I got for $100. The guy had a mid engine project car that never came to fruition. He opened it up thinking he could convert it to a 914 type setup. (He didn't want to flip it upside down). There's a few bits that are missing but nothing major.

The gearing may be different from a 911.
