Can someone eyeball this front strut please? Racing Struts
Hello all and happy holidays.... At tech for the SCTF race at sept INDY this year. some play was noted at the top of this strut... ( everything else... bearings, ball joints, top mount, 935 front suspension. etc. was carefully eliminated). The play was at this top black cap fitting, (see red arrow) which presumably holds the shock insert in place. Upon wiggling the wheel one could definitly see the wobble right at the top of black fitting. These are single adjustable , raised spindle, pre- induced camber racing struts from my 74 RSR 911 ( 77 chassis). I was told that they are likely old school JRZs. but the markings look weird. I bled the pressure/oil out of bottom fitting and removed it. but the shock will still not come out ( not even sure if anything is wrong with the internals or the shock anywAy. Before I sept it to someone , I wanted to ask the braintrust. not sure how to proceed. getting ready for PCA Sebring
Thank you. Frank. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Geneman; 12-26-2021 at 03:14 PM.. Reason: forgot 1 pic |

The early JRZs were built with core spindles, so I don't think the cast numbers are going to tell you anything. You're most likely going to have to send it out, and hope they can still get parts. I have some JRZ struts in a similar state sitting in a box. Olsen Motorsports in Illinois is the JRZ distributor and can rebuild them, if you don't have a preferred local shop.

Thanks Cory. thats what I was afraid of. pretty old units. Yes Tim Olsen seems to be the big Mojo on these. His shop is expanding to Naples Fla. meeting him next week there. Thanks very much. Frank
