Lightweight Carpet
Looking for a lightweight carpet for my G body that is easy to clean and doesn't cost $800.
I have some RS carpet (black felt). This seems like a magnet for dirt. Isn't there a small looped carpet that is fairly easy to clean? Thanks, John.

Hi John,
I am in the process of putting new carpet in my 911. I'm also a fan of saving some cash and decided to do it myself. I went to the local carpet wholesaler that I was referred to by an auto upholstery shop. 4 yards of carpet @ $30/yard seemed to do the trick. 5-6 yards if you have to do the entire floorboards (my floorboard carpeting was salvageable so I'm using that). This was the least expensive carpet they had (they call it Prestige Black Carpet). It was also the thinnest. The upholstery shop sold me $30 worth of glue for the job. They're also going to bind the edges of my cut carpet since they have a sewing machine. $40 for their labor (and will be picking up all my pieces today). Overall, the project cost roughly $200 and about 10-15 hours of my own labor. The way I see it, I saved a lot of money and learned an awesome new skill. Some work-in-progess photos and up-close of the new carpet for you. It is very easy to clean with a vacuum: ![]() ![]() ![]() It isn't going to be concourse but will look much nicer than the old carpet that was in there before. Good luck with the project. Feel free to PM me if you need any tips. Edit: I should clarify that I replaced the following pieces: driver/passenger front footwell area, carpeting that attaches to both door thresholds, center tunnel, entire rear seat area carpeting. That took 4 square yards with a couple of bad pieces as I did not have the original carpeting to use as an outline.

Thanks Matt. That looks good to me and easy to clean. I want to spend more time driving the car than cleaning it. Lol
I have some templates I can use from another kit for a different car so that will help. What glue did you use? I hear 3m Super 90 is good.

The 3M stuff is good. I've had luck with that in the past. The upholstery shop sold me brush-on DAP contact adhesive as that is what they have always used. When I was at the carpet store, I asked the sales guy about the difference between the spray can adhesive and the contact cement. He told me that both adhere well and it is just a matter of personal preference.
If you get the spray can, don't forget to hold the can upside down and spray out the adhesive in the nozzle after you're done. That way you can keep it for future use.
