alan gunn leather
I recovered two porsche steering wheels in the distant past with kits from alan Gunn Leather.
Both covers and dealings were excellent. However in years after I saw a bunch of people dissatisfied with dealings with him. Anyone had any recent dealings with him? It doesn't look like our host can supply one for a 73.5 hard rubber 400cm one I see I can get a new skin from a supplier in Europe which I have bought from before anyone willing to make a recommendation for a supplier here in the US? TIA

Dallas custom steering wheel. I've purchased from them for years. Great service and product.
The one time I purchased from agl, the product was trash and took months of reminding to get it.

I think AGL still hangs out on fleabay - mostly catering to Japanese drifters.
You think maybe the tiger has changed his stripes?

You may also consider checking with an eBay seller under the eBay ID of eima777.
He sells on eBay here in the US and also eBay Germany. Here's an example of his product / work on eBay Germany: I have purchased products from him - and found that his work is exceptionally good. (Workmanship, material quality - as good or better than factory Porsche work.) His pricing is higher than Dallas Customer Steering Wheel, but I've found that the quality of the work can be better. |

How about a recommendation for leather kits for do-it-yourselfers? Thanks

I did find him still on the internet but as you suggest I am not eager to risk the 80 bucks.

thanks for the responses guys, Like sergio I am really looking for a kit. Heck I can go out and buy a brand new prototipo for less than it would cost to ship to Dallas and have them do it. I found a kit but it doesn't look like they punch the edge holes. i am waiting to here back from them. As I recall not having them could lead to a lot more blood loss.

Another vote for Dallas, very fast turn around, excellent work. Packs the refurbed wheels like the gems they are.

thanks for all the input. It looks like Dallas is the place to go if I was going to have someone else do it . However, I have purchased a kit from a European supplier and am going to give it a go myself. pm me if you want the specifics.

Dallas had done a a couple of wheels for me in the past and they came out well.
Even though the prices had risen dramatically I sent a third for recovering. It came out pretty poor (a BMW wheel, nothing particularly special) . I asked him to try again which he did with no improvement. I asked for a refund which he refused and I had to get my my credit card company involved. I'm sure most people have no issues at all, just my experience.

Same here. The steering wheel is the ONE part that you are always looking at and touching with your hands. I had them rebuild my steering wheel and I asked them to match a piece of the old leather that was on the backside bottom of the wheel. They matched it perfectly, and it looks like a factory new wheel. Way better than I could have done with the perfect kit. They know their stuff.
