Talking Spousal approval gained!!!

Greetings to all of you 911 freaks. I have lurked for a while but now Im bursting out of the undergrowth to reveal myself. I have been a 911 fan for a long time and owned my first one at the age of five. Unfortunately it was just a die cast model and I swapped it for a plastic toy out of a cereal box at school (geez I caught it from my dad for that one !!) At he age of nine I caught the bug for real and now at the tender age of 40 I have got spousal aproval to buy the real thing!!! Oh Happy Day:-) I am going to give it plenty of time to find the right car. I started out thinking of a mid-year 2.7 but I really think that an '84 on would suit me best. I have two pre-schoolers and I don't want to have to spend lots of time (and money) on repairs and mods. I have a buyers guide already and plan to join the Sydney Porsche Car Club. My shopping will begin in earnest later thisyear so I'll keep you guys up to date bye for now.

Two things concern me. First, you mention either a pre-SC car or a post-SC car. Everyone knows that the pinnacle of German engineering was 78-83.

Secondly, congratulations on your spousal "approval". Just remember; It's generally easier to get forgiveness than permission.

Unless you have a 3.2 carrera, in which case you know better! The 3.2 is top dog

The best 911 is obviously the one you own!

HMMM, 40 and 2 pre-schoolers. Very good.

Call PEP and get rear shoulder belts so the little ones can go with you.

Everyone knows the MFIWDP is the only successful project out there.

But I must conceed that if you don't want to work on it a whole lot, the longhoods may not be for you.

Benny, Tim's absolutely correct. Accept no substitutes for an MFI car, unless you want a cushy 993.

That's a great plan: go right past the Semi Carrera, go right to the real thing!

Sounds like my story. My cousin gave me a plastic model kit of a 911 when it was my 10th birthday. I thought the car looked weird compared to Cudas, GTOs, etc. So this last July I figured it was time to finally get the 911 (yep, just turned 40 this last November). Go with the 3.2. You'll love it. And, you can always rationalize it as taking a practice run at a mid-life crisis!

Well, I don't know what good it's going to do to post on this site....not too many of the posters have opinions and of those that do it's difficult to get them to express them.
Welcome,

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! :-) I knew I'd stir up some opinions with my choice of model year but I figure 3.2 with EFI will suit me. A project car is out of the question. To answer Bob's question, there is a pretty healthy supply of air-cooled cars on the market over here. They range from a 911 T that I saw for $AU 15Kto late eighties cars for $AU 70K. The cars I am looking at fall in the $40K to $50K area. A soon as I begin looking seriously at cars you can be sure I'm going to fire some Q's at all of you as well as keep you appraisedof my progress. It's good to be here :-)
