Looking at those photos, valve adjustments are going to be a bear...

I'm amazed at the quality for a home-made header assembly. That's great work, fast too!

What size is the motor? Are you sure those headers are going to work - i.e. make more power? All of Porsches headers, I believe, were equal length headers. Where did you get your measurements? They look beautiful, regardless, but valve adjustments are going to suck.

Great looking job, but it's going to get warm down there. I think some engine shielding and a turbo heat shield will help keep some of the heat off of the engine. Ceramic coating the headers will help as well.

Thanks everyone. I know heat management will be very important for my new project. That's why I went with 321 stainless steel to begine with. I also plan on getting the turbo turbine section coated as well as the headers. I will also be using plenty of heat shielding on top of that.

Very nice job Mark. I personally wouldn't coat them because they turn such nice purdy colors. From yellow to a blueish-purple. The valve adj isn't going to be a problem. Just take them off. Cooling is no problem either

914~6 You don't need equal length headers on a turbo.

Alt. 2 is to use exhaust wrap. And yeah, you need to have heat-shield on those covers. Good work!

We are also going to make our own stainless headers...what welding gear are you using? TIG? MIG?

Beep, I'm using TIG.

Noah, the total project has been @ 4 years. The twin turbo conversion is brand new. The headers took a weak and its the first step I took.

Very nice. What size turbos are those and what will you be using for engine management?

Thanks to all again. Packaging is definately tight. I won't even be able to pull some spark plugs unless I pull the turbos. Ohhhh, the price we pay! It's no big deal to pull the turbos so I ain't sweatin it.

The turbos are new K16's which I am going to have modified to be similar to K24s on the compressor side.

Currently, I'm running a Haltech E6K engine management system. Since I have it all apart I've been thinking about fiddleing with just about everything including it. I really like the DTA system. It is very feature rich and quite a good unit. However, there isn't anything wrong with my E6K so I might end up continuing with that. I am strongly considering going to a staged injection vs. the multipoint I have now. To do that I would just have to add another set of injectors (12 total) to my manifold.

Natchamp- Did you build your own harness to connect to the E6k? I was looking at going this route but haven't found much in the ways of wiring harness options. Also, were there any other things that came up when trying to connect to E6k?

Theres always Motec which I would love to have but the wiring harness alone costs more than an E6k setup.

The E6K comes with an un-terminated loom. Everything is clearly identified so you just hook everything up. The hardest part about any EMS is the ignition. I am running twin plug with wasted spark via 2-triple ignitors and 6 dual coils.

The M4 is a good system, no doubt. You can get them for 1500. An un-terminated loom is @ 400. However, with Motec you pay for everything else including sensors, ignition expanders, etc. One of the reasons I like the DTA is its a 32 bit system and comes with everything including traction control, launch control, tons of dedicated outputs, sequential injection up to 8 cylinders, 8 dedicated ignition outputs that can trigger the coils directly without ignitors, a windows based interface, etc.

It was my understanding that a Motec M48 would be neccesary for our engines? I was quoted $2500 for the computer plus another $2000 for a premade wiring harness.

I also was interested in the DTA Fast system but haven't seen much about them other than what is on their site. Any idea on thier pricing after getting everything needed to run one of our engines? Maybe I'll look into it some more.

I am trying to twin turbocharge my 993.
Thanks for all the info.

The M48 is a step above the M4. What you get with the M48 is sequential injection up to 8 cylinders. The overall benifits of sequential for the given added cost and complexity is debateable. The M4 will work fine for multipoint injection. The DTA is 1600 and comes standard with sequential for 8, and all the other stuff I mentioned. It does not come with a wiring harness. It isn't that big a deal to make your own harness if you are so inclined. Certainly, 2000 for a wiring harnes is a tad high!
