Not getting full throttle?

There have been threads lately regarding not getting full throttle - (I've subscribed to them myself) and various discussions have gone on regarding adjustment of linkages etc.

Last week I worked on my linkage (this is a RHD car so things may be different) to cure a sticky throttle. The pivot point on the side of the gearbox was corroded and sticking. A clean up and grease made it ok again. After doing this I thought I'd have another go at getting full throttle - no need - the extra half inch had mysteriously appeared!

As I said this applies to a G50 3.2 Carrera but the principle should be the same!

Congrats on your WOT! You might be able to keep up with the SC's now ;)

Cheers

I think your talking about the bell crank. ( I believe it's called ) You don't want to use grease down there. It can pick up debri and cause your throttle to stick. Perhaps, wide open. Not good.

You should clean it up. Make sure the tolerances are right. Then lube it with graphite. The nylon/plastic bushing are cheap to replace if they're worn.

Good Luck

It is teh bell crank I'm talking about - I've basically filled the void between the bushes and the shaft with grease to stop water entering which I assume is the source of the corrosion on the shaft. From the outside of the shaft there's no real grease showing so I'm fairly confident that I'll be ok (although I'm taking the shaft out at the next gearbox oil change to do a more permanent fix)

What I don't know is whether the nylon bushes will be affected by the grease and break down?

Can someone post a picture of what they are talking about? I have read threads and looked at mine and I am almost certain that when I press the gas pedal down that I am not getting full throttle.

Picture is a 1,000 words.

Thanks

Could be worse, you could have the six hundred rods associated with a glorious MFI car ;)

It's a midpoint pivot in the throttle linkage that rides on a shaft that protrudes on the driver's side half of the gearbox. It's the only pivot next to the gearobox that's related to the throttle, not hard to spot.

I am with PDAPCA, could someone post a picture?

I have to itch to tinker over the long weekend.

The bushes shouldn't deteriorate because of the presence of grease . Also any grease packed around the pivot may atract dirt but it will be keeping water out and will form a mobile sheath around it .

Hope these help - first one is linkage under car on side of gearbox (this is RHD car) second one is throttle as was before cleaning / lubricating

Roy - Where do we make the adjustment to make sure that the throttle is openning completely in the first picture.

The second picture is where I have looked for means to adjust, but it basically raced the engine and did not seem to appear to be pulling the cable completely taught when the gas pedal was fully depressed.

Thanks for the pictures and info. I feel really dense about this one.

The part number for the bushing (2) is: 914 423 211 00

I removed my engine/trans (first time) last weekend. Both of these plastic bushings fell out in pieces as I slid assembly off of shaft. Two new ones on their way from Pelican.

I made adjustments at the end where you can see the rubber bellows (goes to the pedal). Rubber bellow to bell crank is a threaded rod and ball joint - remove the clip and then the ball joint and turn whilst holding rod - you'll get some more throttle.

However, the greatest effect I got was by removing the circlip on the bell crank (after removing connections) removing it as far as I could (it caught on the suspension arm so I couldn't remove it fully), greasing and replacing - all the 'lost' motion came back and no sticking throttle!
