1984 Targa Cruise control cable adjustment

I have a lot of play here and am concerned it may catch and leave the throttle open.

I'm not sure how to tighten the gap. Do I just turn the round piece? The plastic looks a little brittle as well.

![]() An unknown prior mechanic simply ziptied the black adjuster assembly to the metal bracket as illustrated in red, pulling them tight together, probably for the same reason as yours. I havent had any issues with it that way. The round piece is part of the square bit in the bracket (it doesnt turn), and allows the hexagonal threaded piece to adjust the engagement point (just like the brake levers on old bikes). This fix looks halfassed but it works. And it'll keep you from having your throttle hang. Or you can try to source a new cable.

Take a look at this thread. Post number 18 specifically. Is this the dreaded cruise control cable throttle hang? New cable: https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/91161712407.htm?pn=911-617-124-07-OEM&gclid=Cj0KCQiAjJOQBhCkARIsAEKMtO2Lb7xhtpcWIUV3bzGf SjbqpjK8o9RSJnemEtTQYKO-IjGwuD9_rC8aAuIhEALw_wcB&ByPassCat=Y

The gap you have illustrated is the mounting clip and will not change by adjusting the cable. It does appears as though your cable clip has some slight damage preventing it to be fully seated.

You may want to try to temporarily spread the mounting bracket to open it up just a bit and push the cable in a bit to better seat it in the mounting clip. Other wise a new cable may be in order.

A couple of zip ties work fine and over 200 bucks cheaper. That is why I used for the last decade.

The link I posted has the zip tie fix. I have the zip ties on my car as well. Plus even with the new cable a person might want to consider a zip tie in the event the cable would fail which can cause the throttle to hang.
