Third Brake Light

Hello,

My third (rear window) brake light isn't working on my '87 Targa. When I popped it off to replace the bulb, the gasket disintegrated. I replaced the bulb and put the light back without the gasket. It still didn't work. Questions:

1) Can I get a replacement gasket, or do I need to replace the entire third brake light?

2) If I need to replace it, is this the right part?

3) Pending replacement of the entire light, or the gasket, any ideas on how to get the light to work? (I need to pass a safety check.)

Thanks!
Scott

did you try it with the ignition on?No need to buy the light just get yourself 2way tape...
Check your ground to it with test light..are your other brake lights in working order?

Thanks. Other brake lights are working. I only tested with the power on, but not the engine. I’ll test as you suggest.

I'm not pretty sure, but I might remember that I read somewhere that the factory third brake lights is connected on one of the two brake lights in the tail lights. Please check out in the wiring diagrams for your car. It could be a contact problem or even a broken cable.
Check also with a multimeter the voltage is delivered to the socket, probably it's a contact problem within the socket.
