Brake light switches- what's the problem?

I ordered the Bosch switches for my 88 carerra. There is a plastic piece between the two metal prongs/connectors..I called pelican, spoke to glenn..he wasn't sure why they came that way. Next, I ordered the ATE switches and they are exactly the same. Has anyone else had this issue? Idk if there was a big batch of switches made with this plastic prong in the middle..really strange. I'm either going to try the porsche oem switches and see if they are correct..or I may just try and cut the plastic prong out..Thoughts?

If the spacing on the metal blades is correct just cut the plastic tab. Life is too short to worry about this one

Years ago I had to replace the brake light switches. The spacing on the blades was too wide and wouldn't fit in the connector. Pelican folks couldn't figure it out, probably thought I was nuts actually. I ordered the switches three times, two different brands from Pelican, and a different source, all with the same issue. So out came the Dremel...split the connector so it's now "universal fit"...problem solved.

It's been awhile, but there was no plastic on the VW bug switches, last time I bought a couple.

Oh the horror!

installed these after cutting the middle plastic piece out. They work great. No big deal.
