What tool kit is this and is it complete?
 

I purchased some tool rolls a while ago and I believe this is from an SC? I recall the kits in my SC's looked something like this but that was 30+ years ago.

Any help pointing out what belongs and what doesn't and value would be helpful.

I don't believe the spark plug tool is correct. I recall mine being longer.

For some reason it won't let me upload some of the more detailed photos. The tool roll is a bit dirty but I am assuming it can be cleaned to a degree.

looks 1980`s 911 SC the only thing is missing is the lug nut wrench 19mm and Prudenz- set of fuses,
yes ,the spark plug wrench is an original Klein tool..

There was a tow hook? Not saying you're wrong--just curious as to what it looks like. I don't have one for my '87, but there is a screw-in one for my '90.

I also do think there was no tow hook in the SC tool kit..Only 930 had one..later models had it..Carrera and up
If you want to be precise it should have the gloves in an original bag also bag for the tire, and tire gauge ..

The pics helped and I do vaguely recall the tow hook. The odd shape was an instant memory jogger. Funny I can't remember what I had for breakfast but Porsche facts. LOL There was a plug to the left of the left bumperette as I recall where it was inserted. The 19mm is there it is poking its head in the last picture top left. I have them marked KLEIN and 19MM but I thought KLEIN was 964? You know I have had a set of fuses in a clear plastic pac about 5 or 6 side by side floating around forever. I just cleaned house and tossed them after about 30 years. Oh well.

I do have gloves but I am saving them. I also have a BFGoodrich plastic mat which as I recall was also part of it. My RoW SC came with a bulb kit and a set of triangles but they were lifted when I shipped the car over from Rotterdam back in the 80's. Although the plastic mat might be from the RoW car.

So the $64k question. I see some pretty sad examples asking $500-800. My friend is a 356 tool kit expert and sells those for $2.5k to $9k which is mind blowing. Where would this kit fit in. If anyone has interest PM me before I set a price and post it for sale. I appreciate the input and not looking to set BaT record pricing but could use the cash for other projects.

FWIW, last year in 000 Magazine (issue 18) there was an article about toolkits in air cooled 911s. Pics, descriptions, and lists of what tools came in which years' toolkits.

I've been trying to keep this thread current as a tool kit reference. You need to chase a few links, but you can learn a lot from it:

The 000 article is not 100% accurate. I know there is a photo that is supposed to show the tools for 1984-1989 cars, but some of the tools in that photo were only in the later years, 1987-1989.

I am kicking myself right now as I have had that blister pack of fuses floating around since probably 2001 and I just tossed it not long ago. I was doubting my decision to do so. I guess I should listen to myself but 45 years of 911 ownership you collect a lot of junk.

I do have a set of triangles from my 79SC but they are in a gray box. I have to look for them.

I also have some spare tools I am not sure where they fit in. I know the tire pressure gage was from my 79 SC. I kept that along with the gloves and BFG mat when I sold the car back in 85. I tried to find the current owner but good luck.

The 8/9mm wrench I believe is Porsche but it has different markings and is very poor quality forging. It also says Germany instead of West Germany.

The plastic floor mats haven't been opened in forever so I didn't want to mess to much with them.
So I know the air pressure gage was original to my 79 but looks very different than any of the others I have seen. I am not sure of its value but not something i would use today.

His section on 964 is incomplete and has many errors. A lot was changed over the years I have original sets for my 93 and 94 and sets from my 90 & 91 964's and have looked at many. I will see if i should bring this up.

The early 964 kits had snaps and it wasn't until 92 that they came with the string bag. They also eliminated some tools over the years and the turbo toolkit was different for the 3.3 and 3.6 turbos.

I'm not going to get into that here since this is about the SC kit. I guess I will throw these up for sale in the for sale forums and see if anyone is interested. I have 6 964 tool kits so I don't need more tools I will never use.

The tool kit in the OP is missing the sunroof tool which can be seen in the lower right corner of the first pic in Post #7. I do not think SC kits came with tow hooks.

The early SCs had the long tow hook with the spring on it that fits through a hole in the left side of the rear bumper (see first photo, Post #7). I'm not sure when that stopped, I have a feeling it was before 1983.

The short threaded tow hook was not in US Carrera tool kits.

Anthony, I'm surprised your SC had an air pressure gauge. I don't think I've ever seen anyone say that was standard. If you've owned that since new, maybe the dealer threw that in. The kits didn't ship in the cars, they were separate and the dealer had to match them up before delivery.

The pressure gauges were in early cars I believe, be careful before you set a price on that. It could be worth a lot if it is a genuine early tool kit gauge.

Hmmm ... well I was of the impression that my '79 tool kit should have had a tow hook in it .. as it did not, I purchased one to "complete" my kit. I certainly may be mistaken. Regardless, I have the opening in the left bumper as described by Mark, and have tested the hook for fitness. Mine has the spring, again as noted by Mark.

I guess the answer on the tow hook is that if your car has the plug to the left of the bumper pad, it needs the hook.
That BFG bag I think was pre SC or whenever they stopped using BFG for spares.
