Help with oil leak

89 Carrera 3.2

It never leaked a drop. Replaced the clutch and main seal and it started leaking. Replaced the main seal again with a genuine Porsche seal. Its still leaking. Looks like its leaking down the side of the cooler where it meets the engine. What might be the cause?

When I had the engine out. I did not notice excess oil in the triangle of death area.

Many Thanks,

Chris

Usual suspects: Triangle of death, failed cooler seal, failed cooler.

My story: https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1095055-failed-oil-cooler.html

Remove the air flow meter assembly so you can see the TOD area.

I think its coming from the upper cooler seals. Maybe it just needs a tightening (doubt it). Taking it to the shop today to get a professionals opinion. I thought it was the main seal as I had replaced it when replacing the clutch and the leak started so replaced it again, huge pain in the ass. I am getting burned out on fixing it. Pretty sure its not the main seal.

I was able to remove the oil cooler without dropping the engine.

Per Ivan, be aware of this tech bulletin if you end up removing the oil cooler.

The top of the engine is wet. Believe its the oil sender. Gonna replace that and hope for the best.

Thanks,

Chris

Do some JB weld around the plastic at the crimp with the new one, they leak there after awhile.

Even the JB weld reinforcement isn't forever.

I fabricated a plug for the idiot light sender when my reinforced one started leaking, and bought a VDO two pole sender unit I have mounted at the rear (of the car) of the engine where the oil pressure sender goes. This unit combines a pressure sensor for the gauge, and an on/off switch for the idiot light. Hasn't leaked yet, plus if it does it is easy to get at. Just calls for a short wire extension for the idiot part.
