CDI Rebuild...who does this since Pelican no longer does it?

Since the rebuild service is temporarily (or maybe permanently) NLA, (https://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/ksearch/pel_search_2016.cgi?command=DWsearch&description=Bosch+CDI+repair)who are the current sources for a CDO box rebuild. All the threads are found are older and may not be accurate.

Who does rebuilds these days?

I could not have been more pleased with Ashlock Tech. Bob was a pleasure to deal with and provided bench report paperwork and a warranty to boot. Fast turn.

I got this email from Ingo a couple of years ago. I would contact him for updated prices.

you can send your box to:

Ingo Schmitz
2424 Calle Andalucia
Santa Barbara, CA 93109
(805) 570-3673

I can either work on yours (turn-around ~1-2 weeks) or do an advanced replacement. I do have several 3-pin and 6-pin boxes ready to go that are fully tested. If I work on yours I don't re-finish the housing but do all the required repairs and tests to make it work like new. The advanced replacement boxes have a re-finished outside as well to make the also look more or less like new.

For the advanced replacement you send your box in as a core. If you chose that route please make sure the box has not been in an engine fire (happened once) and the plastic connector is not fractured. Both would render the box not meeting the standards as a future box to a customer, go figure. I haven't really worked out a core charge and so far I have been lucky to get usable cores back after sending out the replacement boxes. I'd like to keep it that way rather than having to do the core charge and later refunding the money.

The price for working on yours is 250$ plus 10$ s/h and the price for the replacement is 300$. Payment is best done via PayPal but a check works as well. With the repair there is a 2-year no-questions-asked warranty. This is to cover anything that fails down the road.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Cheers,
Ingo

Hi friends, service by AshlockTECH (direct and via Pelican) will resume in mid Sept when I return from vacation. Us mad-scientist guys need a break once in a while... . Other experts mentioned above are great alternatives.

Same goes for me with Bob Ashlock. I'm currently running one of his rebuilt units in my '71 S, and will be installing them in my '78 SC and '75 Carrera eventually. I know the folks at Parts Klassik and they are great people and I've got nothing but good things to say about them as well, but Bob Ashlock is still our man here at Pelican for CDI rebuilds.

CDI Rebuild...who does this since Pelican no longer does it?

This post has been up for some time, however I wanted to add an update for future searches. I just left Bob Ashlock's house of Ashlock Tech to drop off and refurbish my 1980 911SC CDI. Bob was great. Very knowledgable and his workshop was spottless. We first bench tested the unit and everything checked out. He spent time walking me through additoinal diagnostic tests for when I got home. He even offered to lend me a spare CDI to double check and also a spare black Bosch coil just in case. Great guy and great experience. Whether you're out of state or local to southern California..... highly recommend using Bob at Ashlock Tech. https://ashlocktech.com/
