Gunk on Shock Plate

Anybody know what that hard gunk is on the top end of the front shock and camber plate? I did a front end alignment and need to replace what I chiseled away. Or is there a common substitute? Tree wound dressing?

It was used to hold the camber and caster alignment in place at the factory. I chisled it all off and just use the bolts to hold everything in place. Never had a problem with the plate moving.

Kurt--

It seems to me that it also serves to seal the gaps/holes around the camber plate and bolts. I've got the openings duct-taped now which is functional but not aesthetic, not that the gunk is much better.

I think the goop is to seal out water from entering the trunk while driving in the rain or snow.

I'd use some silicone sealant or the like. Something that's easily removed (for the next alignment or repair job) but still keeps the water out.

Good point Dan and Kevin! To be honest I never have seen any water come up through the camber plate. I'll spray up through the wheel well with the hose tonight and see if water really can get into the trunk.
