Swapping automatic in a 1987 911
Has anyone tried to swap a automatic into a 1987 911.
|
Why not save the headache and buy the car you need?
|
Which specific automatic transmission are you referring to?

1991 tiptronic |
Highly doubt that could work.. You would need new steering wheel and column and all the wiring to and from the column and the switches for starters..
|
Why would anyone go out of their way to install the worst automatic transmission Porsche ever made?
Now a PDK in an early car would be interesting. Pretty sure that would deliver 0-60 times in the low 4 seconds :D |
I personally would never want any type of automatic in any air cooled 911.
Especially a tiptonic. Unless the OP is disabled and wants to continue enjoying the air cooled driving experience. Otherwise, just why  And yah, even if it were doable, the cost of admission would likely cost as much as the car is worth. And the resale ? Well… good luck |

Given the '89-onwards start date for the type-964, You bet there were '87 911 test cars running around with tips in them... :D |
Sell the ‘87 and buy a 964 Tip. Likely a straight across price level exchange between the two. If you must have the G body look - it’s easier to slap G bumpers on a 964 than putting a tip in an 87.
Also likely faster and less hassle to sell and buy than to undergo a conversion. Just doesn’t make sense. |
