Living in NorCal, I too found it necessary to run a front plate on my RSR. I mounted a bracket on the right side using an early 911 Front License Plate Bracket (P/N 901-701-051-24) that is available from Standards Porsche:

I have oil coolers center and passenger side, and, A/C condenser inside drivers side front fender with a big fan. The placement of the license plate is butt ugly but necessary here in Canada.
![]() Some time ago I saw an electric license plate “hider” that slid the plate underneath an early Mustang but it was too thick for our low cars. Suck it up, I guess. Cheers, Johan

Sergio, Johan, appreciate the pic / suggestion...your car looks great. I've seen the hidden bracket, but I'm going to attach a chin spoiler and a splitter.
Thanks |

Years ago I had a decal copy made of my plate. 15 years on and no problem, application is tricky but nothing hanging out.
I have noticed that no Teslas have a front plate, at least in Texas they seem to be exempt maybe Elon is paying their fines.

I wouldn't. Keep it under your passenger seat. If you get rolled, say you were recently in an accident and haven't put it back yet. I get let go every time I say that.

here in denver, the meter maids write tickets for cars w/o front plates even if there's still time left on meters.

lmao, that's ridiculous.
If you're determined to run one (they ugly!) take it over to a metal shear, and chop off the top and bottom so it's less tall, more wide. Then just patch that panel somewhere to the front so it's not some giant rectangle on the front of your car. I did this on a civic and tucked the plate INTO the lower bumper grill, was hard to see but it was there.

Why not have your plate printed on a piece of perforated metal- that way there will be some airflow through the “plate” to the oil cooler.
Rare earth magnets could be used to secure it to avoid drilling into the bumper. Or print the plate on vinyl and get a sheet of magnet for the back and toss it on the hood. Obviously not as much but better than tickets…

Are you sure you really need the front plate on a vintage car? NJ is a 2-plate state but I have left off the front plate due to the original steel S bumper. So far in the two or three years of driving NJ roads with my 73.5, I've driven by COUNTLESS police, local and state and never had an issue. I do keep the extra plate in the car just in case. I also have the original windshield inspection sticker from the last time it was state inspected in 2001. Some things in NJ aren't as one would expect; these are two of them. Could be the QQ plates?

I don't run front plates in Colorado on several cars. Cant park on street down town or take to Airport with out possibility of ticket from parking enforcement. When I have to part downtown I part in a pay lot or garage (private property so cant get ticketed for no front plate) and don't take cars to air port that don't run front plate. Fine for no front plate was $30 last time I got a ticket, so not a big deal.

My parents used to put the front plate offset to one side of the bumper like others above. They attached it with wingnuts so it was easy on/off.
Another thought. I’ve seen people put front plates on the dash, so visible through the windshield. I wonder if you could get away with that, combined with the wingnut arrangement when parked or in a high enforcement area. |

First, I've found a lot of officers are car nuts too. And don't say a thing.
Second, some states have an opt-out. Fill out some form at the DMV that the vehicle doesn't have a location for mounting a front plate and get an exemption? Third, setup the magnet mounting option, but leave the plate in the frunk. If asked, claim you forgot, after you left the track last weekend? |

Safety first. Good idea to secure it if it were something You actually wanted to do.
