Supe - in the above picture the car is not running, must have just shut down. The Tach has a hold.

Ah. I see.
What is the factory recommended specification for oil pressure in an engine that is not running? |

I believe the car was off in that picture, but at idle my oil pressure gauge DOES read zero. When driving around, the gauge moves a heck of a lot, in very jerky movements with bouncing before it it settles on a number. I purchased a matching oil pressure gauge from SpeedHut but failed to realize that the sensor they send with the gauge is too long to fit in the 911's engine bay without cutting a nice big hole in the engine crossbar. Come to think of it, I should start a project car thread... |
oil pressure looks hi to confirm oil temp. but i would still verify oil temp
i ask again, how did you verify the engine Tstat is working . it sure sounds like its stuck open. mine was not stuck wide open but it was stuck open . it took a long time to warm up too. |

Hi, Thermostat has been tested on the cooker in a pan with water and increasing temperatures and it works like new. Oil temperature has been checked with high quality infrared thermometer and also with thermometer probe directly in to the oil tank. Both measurements verified exactly what the original dash gauge shows. So the oil just don’t get up to 185-195F as it should, even after more than 1 hour of driving. In my early m.y. '84 3.2, with original brass radiator and 104k mi., I rarely reach the 90* line all year in normal driving conditions - it takes a warm day in the desert and vigorous pace to climb above 120* and an autocross day to get somewhere in between, usually around 105*.
