pics of the Monty and its kilter

Here is a shot of the Monty on my 930 with the new pipe installed. I tried to take the pic really square and the red boxes are on acccording to my measurements. As you can see its off a little. Now there is a little "tweak room" but not without a fight. Is this normal at all? The drivers side pipe is down 2" from the the p-side and points more to the side. Tonight I will tweak away but just thought I would throw it out there.

If the pan above the muffler is aligned with the engine, the outlets seem to be very close to that axis, your drawn box looks off-kilter Look at what Kevin(KTL) found out when he eyeballed his toe in.

Use the rear engine support as a reference and see how it looks.

You cant go by the pan, it isn't even attached yet. You can see that my box goes right through the mounting holes in the engine support bracket. Also I have done measurements with a straightedge accross the mount and it is definiely the way it is shown, maybe a little worse.

Thanks for the picture, and with my eyes and your photo, I would have to agree with you. It would seem strange that they would enigneer it to show uneven at the tip. It is a scary idea, but do you have a high end muffler shop that you would trust to tweek it? After all this thought, I bet its going to be an eye sore to YOU, if no one else after the install. I've had a car where the muffler shop just had a different angle to the pipe and I always noticed it when walking up from behind in a parking lot, URGH.

Good luck
Luke

Exhaust pipes are a funny thing. They just gotta look right.

2 in. is definitely going to be noticeable. Great job with the photo. The lines really help to point out the problem. Gotta tweak it.

And don't ask me to eyeball it for you! You know what i'm talkin' 'bout Charlie!!!!

Funny thing is, the toe did not look bad at all. I looked at it a hundred times. But, I suck at eyeballing. You should see me hang a poster without a level.............Jesus!

I hear ya on the eyeballing, but the fact is I've measured this setup to death. The only reference point I can find is the top of the engine support mount. I really dont think I'll get it all the way there so I'll probably get it as good as I can then mount up the motor. then I will have to do some mods to the tips after that. Such is life. This little deal has given me much grief to say the least.

That puppy may be cockeyed, but the photo analysis is suspect. I still think you need to mount the crossbar and measure against the surfaces that match body points.

BTW: Nice looking plumbing are those 3" outlets.

I have heard that a lot of Montys get dinged during shipping. That said, I picked mine up at the factory and it still required some strong-arming to get it fitted straight.

Looks like 3" on the right and 4" on the left... (?)

i've used a lot of montys and they all fit fine. the 930 muffler angle is a product of how the turbo sits on it's lower flange. if the flange is off, (bent) so is everything else.

Yep JW, I agree about that flange. That is why I was so worried about my original being bent. There is a little tweak room but I may end up doing a little "work" on the tips later. I am just happy that I can move on from this BS soon. This has added 3 weeks to my project so far. I am admittedly slow as I pine over every detail but I like to understand everything before I work. I spend atleast 3 times more time looking and thinking than I do turning wrenches at this point.

i have gained a little downward movement on the right side by enlarging the flange holes so the turbo can twist clockwise a bit. even the turbo bolt holes can be enlarged for more travel.

Good idea, I may not need to however as there is some adjustment available at the crossover-pipe connection (up and down) as well as the turbo flange (clockwise and counter clockwise). Tonight I may be able to finish bolting it up permanant style. Woo hoo
