The Calgary is In!
I just installed my new Blaupunkt Calgary, and I've got to say, it's a darn nice unit for the money. I used a custom harness, so no cutting, splicing, nothing, just plug and play!
The system sounds surprisingly good with the factory speakers, so I'm going to leave things as is for a while. Once thing I will mention is that the custom harness allowed me to use the factory fader, which must feed a split signal to the rear speakers being that only one pair of speaker outputs is used. I like the effect, as it creates almost a surround kind of environment. When I was a kid selling and installing Alpines at a small car audio shop, I remember we used to wire systems in a similar fashion, to achieve that "instruments coming from different speakers" result. We'd even wire things out of phase to get pretty cool results. Even if I change out the speakers, I'll likely leave the current wiring set-up intact. Oh, and the Calgary looks very factory with the yellowish backlighting and simple display. Even the rotary volume knob and round selector pad matches the round knobs above the radio. I'll try to get a digital pic tomorrow..............Overall, I'm pretty thrilled with it!
