Selling my baby :(

Unfortunately, I'll be selling my 964. It was a tough decision, especially with top down weather coming up!! But, we're trying to pare the stable down a little bit. I've posted on Pelican's classified section and Rennlist. Anybody else have any suggestions/helpful tips? I'm trying not to resort to Autotrader since I don't want a bunch of, shall I say, "non-serious" people crawling around my personal stuff (I think you know what I mean!).

Someday I'll be back to Porschefile/Pelicanhead world. This forum has been great, and I've met alot of great people, but sometimes, well, you know.... Thanks so much Wayne and everyone else!

Trent,

Actually, I was also apprehensive about using Autotrader as well but my experience turned out to be quite positive. It provided the most qualified and genuinely interested leads. Sold my 7 series BMW and received asking price. Got one or two dreamers but it was easy enough to weed them out. Sold the car sight unseen and in the end we were both very pleased with how the transaction went.

BTW, nice ride. Too bad you have to sell.

Trent,
I hate to hear the news that you have to sell, but we all come up on those hard decisions. If I have a free seat in my 911 you're more than welcome to ride with me on any NC fun run.

Trent,

When you do sell it, could you PM me on the economics? I would be interested in the data point because I have the identical car (except I have 993 basket-weave alloys).

Good luck. I found that Rennlist and PCA classifieds were the best way to get qualified, serious buyers. Call Brian Buxton in Indianapolis also, he's great to deal with and is the guy who sold me my cab.

Trent P.,

Is your ad for the 964 still up on the Pelican classifieds? I couldn't find it anywhere.

Let me know,
Steve

Steve,

Yes, it should be. I just went to "Forum Jump" and dropped down to "Classified Ads", "Porsches for Sale", and it was the first one listed. PM or e-mail me if you can't seem to locate it.

Thanks!

Rick: thanks for the info. I'll see what happens with Pelican and Rennlist first. We're not in any real hurry to sell it. I think it's a nice ride too!

Tim: thanks for the offer of the ride. Hopefully, we can all get together again before I have it sold. BTW, how's "The Turd?"

John: thanks for the info. I'll keep you posted.

Steve: I updated my last response to your question. Let me know if you found it ok.

Trent,

Sorry to see you sell. I had great luck with the ads in Pelican and Rennlist when I sold my 914 last year. Sold it to the first guy that wanted to know about it than the price. And had lots of folks still calling after I removed it from both classifieds.

I do not know how far you are from Atlanta, but I see ads as far as the Carolina's in the sunday Atlanta Constitution. I am always amazed how many P-cars are in Atlanta as a review of sunday classifieds yields columns of cars for sale. Lately its been a huge number of Boxsters.
I realize you would be in some competition, but the Atlanta market is second only to California in the number of P-cars here and you may find that one buyer seeking your model. The Atlanta Autotrader is another great source as well. If you decide to go with consignment their must be three-five independent Porsche shops that sell P-cars as well in showroom settings.

Best of luck
Bob

Bought mine on AutoTrader? This was my best source when looking beyond my local market, which is essential in Ohio.

When I was selling my 97 Targa, I got the best response from Pelican, Rennlist, and mostly the PCA sight. Autotrader was a complete waste of money...no responses! I also tried the Washington Post which puts it on Cars.com, also no response and very expensive.

I would suggest you setup a website with lots of pics.

It took over 5 months to finally sell my car and everyone kept telling me it was overpriced (it was six months after 9/11) but I stuck to my price and was successful in selling it for what I wanted. Lot's of bargain hunters out there ready to waste your time and make you think you're price is crazy. Just ignore them and wait for them to call back after you've sold the car

Good luck!

Dan: good on ya, mate, for sticking to your price. Your car is worth what someone else is willing to pay!

Bob: I'm about 4 hours, give or take, depending on I-85 (yech!), from Hotlanta. I might give it a shot. Here in Charlotte, there only seems to ever be about a dozen or less 911's in the paper on the weekend.

Reese: LOL! Not a bad idea. Hmm....

Hal: thanks for the info. I got your PM. By the way, are we going to try to do another Carolina Ride any time soon?
