Thumbs down Fuel pump whine on 3.2...

Howdy-

Fuel pump sounds like a faint weed whipper engine...

Obviously, I'm on borrowed time but how much time?

Are you a gambling man?

If not change the fuel pump now or at the very least join a motor club so that you can have the car towed(?) flat bed back to your garage or mechanic.

I guess that would place me at the cemetary next to the county zoo...

One thing you might want to check before you get a new pump: any chance the current pump has made contact with another metal peice down there and is resonating against it? It's been known to happen.

If not, then go ahead and get that AAA membership.

Just don't drive by the cemetery next to the county zoo and you'll be okay.

I 2nd what cowtown said (check for vibrating belly pan). I would add that a dying fuel pump puts an extra load on the DME relay. You may want to replace the DME relay after you replace the pump. The DME "relay" actually has two relays inside one box; a fuel pump and a DME relay. Open the old relay and look for a darkened (from heat) area around the inner relay that feeds the fuel pump.

Yup, I've already replaced the DME relay. Heck, I've almost replaced my entire car now. I did my 27th Pelican order today since I bought this thing back in August. Had a corner balance and alignment done this week too...

What I was trying to say is that the dying fuel pump will/can make the DME relay fail prematurely. If you haven't replaced the pump yet, your "new" relay has been getting fried a little more every time you drive.
