Any 1973.5T sunroof problems like I have?
The older sunroof transmission to motor connection, oftern referred to as the "transmission" is this whimpy piece of cloth re-enforced plastic with pressed on female fittings.
The "transmission has to be slightly bent to fit between the male ends of the roof tranny and motor. Re-alignment adjustment is impossible. But, everything look normal to me. At a cost of $30.00 a pop at the dealer, and after going through four of these suckers over the last two years I decided to just apoxy the fittings back on and re-use them until they break again. I do not know what is causing this, but if I had to guess it is the sudden torque of the motor to tranny itself. Of course the upgraded version is a nice direct-line barrel looking piece that probably lasts forever! I realize that this older style piece is made to sacrifice itself if anything comes up between the sunroof and body like a head or a hand, but talk about a weak link! Has anyone tried to weld a small cable between the two fittings thereby eliminating that piece of plastic? Thats the trick! My sunroof components are fine....................but, I am appealing to those who may have encountered the same problem and perhaps need to access another condition. Regards Bob 73.5T |
