OT-posting pics and arrows
Guys:
A new function of my job might require me to post pictures...much like what is done on the board.. and it would be helpful/beneficial to post with extra features like placing arrows and text superimposed over the pics..like many are doing here. Guys here seem to be able to hand draw arrows....some others look like special font arrows can be placed over pics. How is this done? What kind of software or digital camera characteristics are needed? Totally out of my element , here... ---Wil Ferch ![]() |

I use Photoshop normally, but at the office when I don't have it. I cut and past onto a Word document and use the "Draw" tools for marking up. That's the simple way to do it at the office...only problem is if you move the picture or don't group things the parts don't all move together, but if you PDF the file when done..no problems.

A less expensive alternative to Photoshop is Photoshop Elements (photoshop lite). You will also need to buy an aftermarket book to learn the basics - the manual that comes with it is useless for learning.

You can download the free Irfanview (very good and universal), change the .jpeg into a .bmp, use MS Paint to make the arrows, change the picture back into a .jpg, resize and post.

I have been using the imaging software (Ulead iPhoto Express) that came with my scanner. It is primitive but works. The price was right also.

Photoshop seems to be the industry standard but the learning curve is steep(do you like rock climbing?)
Paint Shop does everything a non graphic professional is likely to want(including arrows and anotation). It is very easy to use and fairly cheap. I use v7 but am tempted to upgrade to v8.
