Noisy door check

Hello all,
I have a 911 Targa that has very noisy door check operation. These are the metal straps that hold the doors open and prevent them from opening too far. I have replaced one of them and still have the loud click when opening and closing the door. I have repaired the door frame where the check attaches. The previous owner ignored the issue and cracks in the metal of the door was the result. Is there a way to loosen the new door check’s grip? They seem very tight.
Help and advise will be appreciated.

I had the same problem. Very annoying! I replaced the pin with a bolt and a nyloc nut. I just tightened the nut until the clicking sound stopped. Sorry I can’t remember the size of the bolt, but it was the easiest and most satisfying repair I ever made. Hope it works for you…

If it is a clicking or snapping sound, it could be the end of the door check moving up and down on the pin. Try taking a pair of pliers and squeezing the ears that the pin goes through together to make it a snug fit on the end of the door check. This worked for me. I was able to use the supplied pin and no more noise. —Dave

The cure is to take apart the door check and modify the internals so it's not as stiff. I wish I'd taken more pics during this part of the build but I recall it was pretty obvious what part to hack away at the make them operate without so much opening/closing force:

Last time I was messing with the windshield and Ive moved onto the doors and door windows. First up was to permanently install the doors on new pins:

....and new factory door checks. I installed one and couldn't operate the door without fear of breaking something. So one again here I am taking apart and modifying a supposedly perfectly good , genuine factory part, just so it's usable:

After that it was a matter of cleaning up windows, frames, new felts, seals, etc. and actually went pretty well. It's really nice to have this stuff bolted back on the car - which is actually looking less like a body shell and more like a car!!!

The rear quarter window seals have been a real source of frustration - not sure where that story ends. So far I've purchased 3 sets of gaskets, none of them are really any better than the others. I might get into that later once it doesn't raise my blood pressure typing about it.

OK, so the backdate content - it's (yet again) a silly detail, but the early cars have a different door lock setup - here's a before (late model) setup, with the provisions for the round lock/unlock knob:

And, the early style, which will use the mushroom shaped lock pulls. Once I find them, they are obviously somewhere safe, exactly where I put them.....

once you put the reinforcement plates on the door with the new door check all will be good..

new door checks were very stiff but eased up in a few weeks, some people grind the " hump" a little on the door check to make them lass aggressive. i didnt bother and its great now.

before

after

the new plate ground down a littl eon its own lol.

I don't know why the pics didn't come up on my last post, sorry. Fixed it.

The new door checks are too stiff and will tear things apart, and even if you reinforce the doors if you don't modify them in some way the pins will knock back and forth making clicking noises.

mine were fine after a week or two, but they can be reduced by filing down the humps a little .

I didn't want to file or grind the factory fresh parts as I was annoyed by having to modify a factory new genuine Porsche part (yet again).

I'm not being purposely oblique on my method for lessening the force required, it's that I simply can't remember (and didn't take enough pics). I do recall there are four metal tabs holding the assembly together. Bent them back, and a few minutes with a utility knife to reduce the preload on the check was all it took.

All good suggestions but I did same as post #2 and fixed the problem. 1/4. 20 bolt. When opening place a finger on top of existing pin, if it moves at time of click this is your problem.
