passenger side electric window motor

I have a 83 911sc cab and recently my passenger side window wont open, both the switch on drivers side and passengers side do not get it to operate. My drivers side window works fine so I assume the fuse is fine. Anything else I should try before taking apart the door?

Do you have access to the schematic for this part and your car?

And yes you can assume fuse and relay are ok, otherwise driver side would not work.

You can start by checking the switch for passenger side on driver side. If it is faulty, it might not feed current to passenger switch on passenger side.

Just on the off chance that both pass. switches don't work, swap the good/working driver's side window switch into one of the pass. side window spots.

But that would be an uncommon failure. Most likely the motor is no good. I've replaced a couple of those over the years.

Passenger switch on driver side is upstream of passenger switch on passenger side, they are in series. If driver side pass sw is bad, switch on passenger side will not receive any current and won't open window. Motor can still be good.

Same holds true for a bad pass side switch. If driver side pass window switch is good, it feeds current to pass side switch, but if this one is bad, no current goes to motor. Motor can still be good.

Here is a screen cap of this part of schematic for SC. Sorry this is french, but same wiring. Both switches for passenger side are on the left of pic. Third switch on right side is for driver side window.

Mine stick occasionally, found that by repeatedly pushing up/down on switch while gently hitting the window with side of my fist, it will open. I exercise windows at least once a week to keep free.

Before you do that, try hitting the door panel with the side of your hand while operating the switch. If that doesn't work, take off the door panel then tap on the window motor while operating the switch. The most likely scenario is that the motor commutator has a bit of corrosion.

Great! Now just periodically move the windows up and down to keep the motor commutator and brushes clean.
