It's all Wayne's Fault!!!

His book says "If you have a later-model 911, you're in luck, as you don't have to remove the torsion bar covers and radius arms to get at least some degree of adjustment. To raise and lower the rear of the car, simply loosen the large nut and bolt closest to the torsion bar. Then rotate the other bolt located next to it. This bolt is eccentric, and will cause the rear of the car to be raised or lowered as you turn it."

Well, that's what I thought would happen. As I'm writing this, it dawned on me that "later-model" isn't very specific, and I may not have the eccentric adjustment on my '88 Coupe. I loosened the "Lock Nut" shown in the pic, and nothing moved, so I thought simply turning the eccentric would change the height. I began CCW since it made sense that CCW should lower and CW should raise. As soon as the nut moved...*SNAP* I thought something broke, but looking closely, you can see where the plate was released and moved. Also, the Lock Nut bolt now spins and will require a very thin wrench to fit between the radius arm and the body to hold it for tightening.



I suppose the question I have is whether or not I have the adjustable "later-model", or do I have to go through the torsion bar plate removal procedure to lower the rear end?

You definitely have the late model spring plates.

You must have missed the section where Wayne says you need some very thin wrenches. You can get one of the wrenches at a bicycle shop and for the other one you can either buy it at a specialized store or grind a regular one down.

So, from what I can see, the nuts that can be seen on the outboard side of the radius arm are just to lock down the settings. The "adjustment" should be done with a thin wrench on the inboard side?

Yep, bike shop. Should only be 10-12 bucks for a 36mm *head* wrench. Mine even has a nice rubber grip! Yes, adjustment is made inboard. Watch yer knuckles.....ask me how I know

Isn't once you get married the end of your life???? I am 26yrs old and have many older friends/customers in their 30s and 40s that always tell me to not get married.

I don't make enough money yet to give half of it away to some brod, I already give enough away to exotic dancers.

Ah,, Confused you have it all wrong, with a working wife you have 2 incomes to share the costs of rent, insurance, utilities, etc. Leaving that much more for spending on Porsche related stuff. (I never could have afforded my 911 on my own). It's the kids that spell the end of discresionary income, which is why I need that oil cooler before mid-september!!! After that my car money will be going to things like infant seats.

Isn't this "marital institution" kinda overrated... what's wrong with living together without being married? I understand there are different views on this depending on where you come from, but it seems that people in certain countries are really marriage-crazy... :-)

I guess it's cultural (and religious thing)...

OOOHHHH. I like test drives of infinite duration.

Sounds good to me.

BTW making sure the P-car is child friendly is a great way of getting additional funding for the car.
Also means that servicing an 'safety items' are all much more acceptable.

Ps it helps that her motor is older and needier than the P car. Luckily there's a daily driver to keep us mobile.

The infant seat is relatively cheap and who knows, one of your friend will probably give you an infant seat as a shower present. However, the real cost is buying a car for the infant seat, the Porsche is NOT BABY SEAT FRIENDLY. not unless you buy the new Porsche Cayenne.

You can always list items you need for your Porsche as a Baby Shower gift (my cousin husband did that as a joke).

Well, there's a new guy on board who just got a 911 in AZ, and here's his story below. After getting OUT of a marriage, I am definitely not very interested in getting back into one. For the most part, marriage blows.
My best bud just landed a patent attorney position at **** great company making 140k a year (since I want to give his salary, I can't give the name of the company) and he STILL does NOT have a 911. What a freakin' tard. Yeah, he and his wife (and two kids) always live in a sweet @ss house, but drive a minivan, an old accord, and his beatup truck. I'm always on his @ss saying, "did you get a 993 yet? WHEN WHEN WHEN" and he's all, "it's not practical" or as I translate it, "I can't, my p@ssy hurts."

See, that's what marriage and kids do. They take your priorities away. A single man making 140k a year is going to have a 993 twin turbo and a dumb ho (the best kind) riding shotgun.

Anyway, here's this other dude's story. Oh...yeah yeah, you need a thin wrench. I have no idea why people lower their cars without having it done professionally. It must be aligned or you will have the most god awful wear on your tires you can imagine in just a month or two BTW.


"Well I've been lurking on the board for a while now. I thought I would introduce myself and my new P-car. Like a lot of you, I have wanted a 911 for as long as I can remember. There have always been cars that I would like to have, but a 911 was the car I had to have. The styling, lines, curves, handeling and of course . . . the sound! I have always come up with reasons of why it's impracticle and how I could put the $ to better use. Ok, it was my wife that has reinforced these notions for all the years of our marriage. But I looked along the horizon of time, and really saw not point in time that the purchase of this car would ever be practical. I had often resigned myself to think "well maybe when my 3 and 5 year old graduate college". Most recently I thought I might be able to pull it off for my 40th birthday. Then recently I read about the death of the diet gura Atkins. Here was a guy that went to eating practically nothing fun for the majority of his life, and he winds up slipping on a sheet of ice and dies! Wow! With that, and a few other recent events in life, I decided it was time to start living. So here I am. I'm having a blast and you know what? I should have done this years ago."
