Looking to recharge A/C with R12 in L.A. area

I'm looking for someone in the L.A. area who can recharge the A/C in my '86 Carrera. I still have the original system and have been using R12. I know the stuff is hard to get and can be expensive but after a recharge the system works surprisingly well.

Hoping to find someone who will not charge an arm and a leg. If you know of anyone please let me know.

Thanks.
Pete

Don't know what area you are in, I use the Arco station on Franklin and Gower in Hollywood, competent A/C guy there and reasonable prices. For a real specialist, look in Yellow Pages for A/C shop on Beverly near Rampart, (can't remember name), or one in your area. R12 is not a problem to find, just getting expensive. Good luck, the Arco always has best price on freon, just make sure that you are getting real R12, not "freeze12", or whatever it's called.

I'm in the South Bay area. Don't mind driving a bit if I can get it done while I wait.

86 carrera, rechargeing your own car is not difficult and i do
mine every year. Take a look in your owners manual and it
will detail how to do it. The best way is for three people-one to hold the rpms at 2000, one to monitor the site glass that is located behind the left front wheel under the yellowplastic screw off cover and one to watch the can in the engine compartment.
when the pink ball in the site glass "floats" to the top and you see very little air bubbles your are done. If you need r-12
email me at keithepperly@earthlink.net I have two cases of dupont r-12 in 12oz cans.

How about Otto's in Venice? Do they do a/c work, or can they suggest someone? I know Wayne has a guy in the South Bay he likes. Maybe send him an e-mail.

Not sure if you already have this covered. However, I use Tony's in SouthGate (105 and 710 freeways)...if you speak German, its a big Plus...Family owned, over 40 years same location, prices are very fair with no "Attitude"...

I get freon booster each summer, hesitant to upgrade to R134...

Good Luck

My air is not cool again after been charged two months ago. The system did not leak for few days but gradually loses the feon. I have the original system too. Can't blame the air system, it's too old. Time for a replacment.

I too have the original system, (York compressor). I think that my issue is with the hoses. Each Spring I say this is the year that I shall upgrade to newer style compressor (rotary vane type), drier, hoses and switch to R134...oh, well maybe next year...for now things are cold...by August it will be a different story...
