Magnesium passivation products

Hi all,
can anyone tell which products are available in EU to passivate magnesium.
I have to restore a fan shroud with the correct process and I do not want to put paint on it.
Bonderite is one of the most used but it's impossible to find at human prices.

Aircraft spruce has quarts for $35. Check with local aircraft supply places.

Hi Fizeus- To avoid confusion, Alodine 1201 (now known as Bonderite MC-R 1201) is for aluminum alloys only, not Mg Alloys. Your fan shroud was an AZ31/AZ91 Mg Alloy, so (as you've already discovered) the Henkel Bonderite M-CR Magnesium Aero Conversion Coating 598970 is still the best option for an actual conversion coating. Unfortunately, prices have certainly climbed! A lower-priced alternative is certainly a spray like Gibbs Brand or Boeshield T-9. Sadly, these will not give the appearance of the factory conversion coating. However, if you review the forum, you will find that many have been pleased with the protection offered by either of these two sprays.

Hope this helps!

Hi Fizeus, I think you will have a hard time finding anything for home use here in Europe. If you do please let me know :)
I see you are in Italy, why donīt you contact Marvic Wheels, they manufacture magnesium parts so should be able to help?

Missed Approach, thank you for your suggestion... they are very useful.
1 quart of bonderite M-CR in italy has been quoted about 1000,00 €:eek:
so I think I'll contact aircraft spruce at first to see if they can ship to Italy (THANKS to Dpmulvan), I'll also contact Galviar and Modertech to see if they can help.

I really agree with Arlo911 about the wonderful people and high quality of help offered by this forum participants !!!!

REaaly thanks again to everyone !!!

Not sure if this relates, but I used a chromate conversion from Caswell. Caswellplating.com. Gives that subtle amber tone. Followed by a coat of Gibbs. Not sure if it can be shipped to Europe.
