Thank you sir! It's such a fun car to play around with - and drive!

…And coming to a narrow-body coupe with nothing numbers matching ---> Upgraded Electronic Fuel Injection with drive-by-wire single throttle body! This is for (hopefully) installation in the first half of 2024.

I took advantage of Adapt Motorsports Black Friday sale and ordered what I hope are complementary products for a project that may be (currently is???) beyond my skill set. But that’s half the fun of it! I plan to do a lot, and have been doing so, reading up on EFI wiring, ECM’s, learning about different brands of connectors, and enjoying a new world of YouTube videos and tutorials. It seems like the Aussies have a huge presence in the hotrod aftermarket world of EFI tuning! And I have to admit - their accents make them more interesting to watch & listen to than us folks from the lower 48.

Here's what arrived in early Fall. 964/993 aluminum intake – complete system. Will sell off lots of stuff I will not be needing.

From Adapt Motorsports, we have a pair of their quite attractive fuel rails displayed on the hood of this late 60’s Fire Chief car with surface-mounted bell.

This is their ignition reference device with hall-effect sensors that will hopefully (and magically) read the crank and cam to tell the ECM what’s happening every 720 degrees of rotation for sequential ignition and injection. Their custom crank pulley has an attached ring gear, if you will, with the necessary missing tooth.

Had them include 6 direct-fit Bosch COP ignition coils.

Then the sweetest item in the box: The E-Throttle DBW 964/993 conversion kit. Bosch 74mm electronic throttle and the Bosch 1.15 bar T-Map sensor on CNC machined intake adapter. Also comes with the resonance tube with internal flap assembly using sealed roller bearings and a vacuum actuator.

While I was this deep in the rabbit hole, I also got their DBW pedal assembly with Hella pedal/ potentiometer.

And not shown – or not arrived as of yet: Adapt Motorsports adjustable fuel pressure regulator and 2-bolt adapter kit for installing the 964/993 intakes on the 3.0L cylinder heads.

I have a local air-cooled expert that will assist here in Raleigh. He also has experience with EFI set ups and has a nicely tuned 3.6 EFI ITB in his personal SC hot rod. So, I will be using the ECM that he prefers that will also perform all the tasks that I will require of it – and then some.

Keep you posted when this begins to take flight. It will involve my first engine drop, tidying up of the engine bay & existing wiring along with ceramic coating of certain exterior engine items - and installing some USA-made SSI’s with 2-in muffler. I’m excited about this (for me) dramatic next chapter!

Erik is a clever dude. Looking forward to hearing your feedback on DBW with that ECU. (Not sure if I'm supposed to say...given it's what I think it is.)

ECUmaster — Black. You must have met Erik at a Ruchlos Rallye. I could see Capt Kaos (Chaos?), his brown SC, in the background of y’all’s event photos. Great guy.

I've always considered the 912E to be the ideal candidate for a hotrod or backdate project. Its 1976 model year ensures full galvanization.

The presence of factory 6-cylinder mounts facilitates a remarkably straightforward conversion process. Additionally, the 912E distinguishes itself with the inclusion of 5 gauges, a feature absent in the earlier 912 models, while boasting virtually everything else found standard in a base 911.

Same ECU I'm running, just as I'd expected. Erik was the one that suggested I run it as well when I was shopping alternatives to my MS3X.
We ran together the first day at RR2. I led that day and he was right behind me. Helluva driver and all-around good dude.

I've toyed with the idea of DBW and am super eager for your feedback.

Here's a few pics to show the path I went down this winter with my 964 intake halves.

As you can see, I used a hacksaw, variety of sandpaper grits, flat & rattail files, and an old Dremel tool to knock the factory finish off of the aluminum pieces. Obviously, the closer in I could get with the hacksaw - the easier it was to sand down the remaining stubs of aluminum. I took off just about all of the raised attachment points and raised pieces with the exception of the threaded piece on RH manifold that looked brutal to remove properly - and some pieces that will face the firewall. I'll need an attachment point for the small vacuum reservoir that will hide out on that forward-facing side of the intake manifold - and hopefully, out of sight...

Pretty smooth with some 250 and then 320 grit. There were a few flaws in the casting that were small but deeper than what I was willing to grind and sand down in fear of flattening an area on some of the 6 down tubes. Overall, I was pretty happy with the results. This project occurred during the Christmas holidays and took several hours almost every night for a few weeks as I would file and sand – A LOT! Don’t think I could make a living smoothing out these intakes – this was just a labor of love as I dreamed about its future appearance after Pelican Jason Lightner did his magic bead blasting and Cerakote finish.

About 3 weeks later – which I was in no rush and told him so – the finished good reappeared at my local USPS office in great shape. He wrapped them so well in bubble and plastic wrap that they could have survived a trans-Atlantic journey even if they rode on the deck of the ship. It was fun removing all the wrapping to discover how good it really is!

Oh, and I also removed my dirty fan and housing and sent as-is for a fresh makeover!

I recommend anyone DM me for Jason’s info. I found an older thread of his here on the Pelican and recently asked if he was still taking on new business – and he was. Jason was a delight to work with and a man of his word. Good deal for both, I think. This is a light bronze finish from his 3 or 4 offerings. Love it.

Once the eye candy pieces were home and I had a free evening, I thought it may be a good – and fun – idea to assemble the intake manifold with the new hardware from Belmetric and Adapt Motorsport. I am still doing my online research and procuring parts and widgets as I work towards a summertime project of dropping the motor (first time for me) and installing the drive-by-wire EFI system.

Also, this car needs to be a runner again for an upcoming Smoky Mtn tour in May hosted by Erik (Sports Purpose Garage) and Will, the star of Rennthusiast youTube fame. After that event, have a Mem Day Wknd event with the wifey in Pinehurst for the - https://www.sandhillsmotoringexpo.com/ where Porsche is the featured marque.

So, the fan, alternator, fan housing are back together with new fan belt and proper number of thin spacers (as two were missing from PO’s work…?).

That sort of gets us current here with the 912E project update. …Then there is that other car that just joined the family – a 1975 914 of unknown origin! This was a FB Marketplace ad that my brother forwarded me as I walked onto a plane. After 10 exchanges with the seller, we agreed that my wife could drop by the next day, Tuesday, with the $$, and I could pick it up the following Sunday afternoon. So, I actually bought it sight unseen. That’s just the second Porsche that I’ve purchased this way - including the silver car in this build thread!! I don’t think I am as lucky as I was previously. I’ll eventually determine if it’ll stick around – and that depends on whether it is a 3 out of 10, or maybe a 6 or 7. It sure ain’t an 8, 9, or a 10 !! There is some rust. It’s still on the trailer after a week and a half as I’ve been away for work. Once it’s up on the lift, I’ll inspect it and invite other more knowledgeable folks to see if she will stick around or go to it’s next forever home! It was disassembled 10 years ago when it was running. PO wanted to do a Subie swap. So I have 2 motors – both with missing parts and pieces. I have A LOT to learn about these cars. If it does stick around, it could be my next project to take me to 75. I’m 59 now. :/

Pic from wife when I was 3 states away!

Three GOOD fellas (including Tad240 on here) stepped up and helped me load this pile of $%&@. She actually looks pretty good at 10 feet.

You just cannot get more on a 16' trailer than what you see below!

Got her under the shelter for safe keeping. Unfortunately, I don’t think she’s benefitted from hiding under a roof in the past 10 years. Probably under a tarp on the gravel driveway. Sat on jackstands so had plenty of air circulation under her. At least that’s what I tell myself!

Thanks Chris - Just sandpaper and metal files, mainly, on my part. Real art was crafted in OH on the Cerakote and Switzerland where the pretty pieces originated.

You have the real skillz when it comes to building and creating.

Very cool thread! You got lucky on your BAT purchase, and have been putting some great work and parts into the car since. Combined with actually driving it regularly with other enthusiasts, this is as good as it gets!

Too many of these cars eventually get over restored or over built, and then driven very little before being sold off, when they look amazing, but have too much $$$ invested in them.

Looking forward to following along! Especially in seeing the Adapt intake and DBW kit installed, that should be a very nice combination with the ECUMaster Black. Are you going with fully sequential ignition with COPs at the same time? The usual Bosch ones are only $25 a piece, so you will have money left over after selling your stock distributor. Looks so much cleaner as well, and prepares you nicely for that eventually twin plug 3.2 big bore short stroke kit!
