Un-sieze G50 Clutch With Motor Out Of Car

I have an '86 Carrera with a G50 and 3.6 swap.

I pulled the motor in the fall to have the tranny re-built. I am re-assembling and the clutch seems seized. I am not 100% certain it is the clutch and not a re-assembly issue (transmission is mated).

Is there a way to try to un-seize/test to see if it is seized without the motor in the car? Without pulling tranny off?

How can I un-sieze with motor out of the car?

Thanks guys

(The motor sat in a reasonably humid garage so this does make some sense, then again it has sat in the same garage for a number of winters with no issue so kind of odd now)

Are you sure your clutch release bearing fork is properly installed?

That would be the first thing to ask.

The disc may have rusted to the flywheel or pressure plate or both. 4 nuts and the trans is off, 9 bolts and the clutch is off.

I am not 100% sure the clutch fork is installed properly. Here are a few pictures and I will read up on that now.

I would rather not un-mate the tranny. Easy to remove but mating took me a lot of time.

I should be able to disengage clutch with pry bar on the fork, correct?

Thanks again guys.

The fork is engaged but there is clearly something wrong with the TO bearing You can see that the belville spring is bent by the fork
Pull it apart and assemble it correctly

Agree with removing and inspecting everything, brg preload washer has a problem and the fork fingers need lubrication. Looks like the clutch fork shaft boss has been repaired so previous failure of the case. Muuuch easier now than later. Richard

Have tried pulling the transmission back off the motor twice now to no avail. It gets loose and separates about 1/4" but will not come off.

Any ideas? Pin is removed and everything. Driving me nuts.

Thanks guys

Ok for some reason I suddenly can't post pictures. But there was a big hunk of metal in there. I will try again later to post a pic.

If your file size is greater than 5MB then it won't load into the program and post.

Yeah it wasn't that. It was loading and I was getting the image link, but when I posted it was blank. Seems to be working now. WTF is this?!?!?!

All I can think of is maybe a piece of the mechanical stop from an old rubber hub disc that remained stuck in the pressure plate. Don't have one here to check.

Could definitely explain why the clutch wasn't disengaging.. Except the fact that its been in there all along

I don’t believe u can release the clutch with a pry bar on the bench. A little more background please. Was this a working clutch before removal for trans rebuild. When the trans was rebuilt did u remove the clutch from the engine. Progression of events isn’t clear to me.

Hey @Gled49

Clutch was in perfect working condition before transmission failure. I did not remove clutch until after I re-installed the transmission and found the clutch wouldn’t disengage (via clutch slave, not pry bar). I re-removed the transmission on Thursday to figure out why the clutch wouldn’t disengage, and found the above hunk of metal in there.

My question now is where did that pierce come from and is it essential to clutch operation?

Looks like part of the clutch hub examine it very carefully and I think you'll find it
