Very good pictures. Detailed and large plus the comparison pics are excellent too. If you guys have more keep'em coming. This thread is already stored in "Favorites"
Brad Roberts Honestly! Are the Dansks really that sloppy in finish? It's kind of hard to see anything when they are hanging under a 911 so all I have to consider are the pics. |

Danks uses half the number of spot welds we use. They MIG weld everything (we TIG). We have a 30thou interferance fit between our sheet metal and the tubes.. they have a ..well.. a "gap" Their sheet metal rattles as you pull them from a new box. Look inside our tubes. You will see NO weld penetration in any of the flanges (big or small..or muffler flange).
We pride ourselves on NO customer service. None needed when you build a high quality product. B |

Gary,
That piece I shot wasnt a "cream of the crop" weld. It was "typical" of what leaves here every day. We interview 8-10 welders every year looking for the right one (we dont keep one on full time) B |

Dansk cant make this bend using stainless steel (the material gets real thin there if you dont have the proper bend dies)
So.. they use Mild Steel (even in their "Stainless Steel" Heat exchangers). One tube will always rust on you. You can see one of them is rusted as you pull them new from the box... pretty funny. B |

Porsche Porn!!
Brad, Is there a way to seal the sheet metal so that if oil were to drip down onto it, it wouldn't leak into the heat exchanger area, thus causing a smelly cabin? Those H/E are beautiful. I want a pair. Please tell me that the Dansk you took pictures of are the worst of the worst. They look really crappy next to yours.

Brad - It is appreciated that SSi's are so nicely TIG'd rather than (quick and dirty) MIG'd. Question: what part of the SSi's make the "tink" noise when cooling? (after engine shut-down)

On an unrelated note, bus since we have Brad's attention....
Would you guys be able to swap the flanges on a used pair? I got a good deal on a new in box thin flange type, and had them installed on my 82 before I took it apart for a rebuild. It worked ok, but I would rather have the correct thick flange type. If so, what would you guys charge for that? I guess my other option would be to sell these and buy a new set, but my rebuild budget is already sky-high. Thanks, Tom |

I was impressed with how well SSI packaged the heat exchangers. It was not easy to get them out of the box. There was not much of a chance for shipping damage. Anyone who puts that much effort packaging definatly has pride in there product. Oh, and the welds are a work of art.

Neil,
Every set of Danks we "receive" look just like that. The best part is when people send Danks HE's to us for repair "But..I asked for SSI's when I ordered them" This is why our half page is semi "crappy" towards other catalog vendors. Their sales people dont know their ass from a whole in the ground. We do test calls 3-4 times a year to vendors we thing that are selling the Danks product to people who ask for SSI's. Their sales people think SSI is a generic term for "Stainless Steel HE's". Ask for SSI's and get a Dansk box. Oh... Ours are sealed. Nothing gets in... and only heat gets out. That is why we love Wayne/Tom and others at Pelican Parts. B Last edited by Brad Roberts; 05-29-2003 at 01:35 PM.. |

Island (I forget your real name)
Your hearing the "sheet metal" contracting as it cools down. It fits so tight against the tubes... it magnify's the sound you hear coming from beneath the car. You should hear the "neighbors" .. I mean.. the tricycle. B Last edited by Brad Roberts; 05-29-2003 at 01:50 PM.. |

Tom,
We cant cut the flanges off cleanly to replace them. It would look like a hacked mess when we where done.. or we would have 16 hours in the process at (100$ an hour) B |

Tops911..
Here are some packaging shots. You have NO idea what it takes to box them.. ha ha. The glue guns around here run 24/7 after a prodcution run. The wood inside is from pallets we cut up. The styrofoam is from another product we use. Highly efficient "factory" with little to no waste. B |

I agree that the SSI products are the best, as someone said "Porsche Porn". So when are the 964/993 oriented products going to hit the market??

Brad, If it would be legal, I would strongly suggest that you start a large, (1/2 page at least), ad campaign w/ side by side pics of Dansk and SSI heat exchangers, with copy and headline skillfully crafted to protect your trademark. Trademarks, especially yours, are extremely valuable assets. You should start going after trademark infringers, (the vendors), w/ the zeal and the lawyers that Porsche unleashes on infringers. That would get the message out, and at the same time just plain be a great ad, w/ the big photos.
Your current ads are classy looking and OK impact-wise, you need more than "OK". No charge for this consulting.

Um... how's the weather in Kentucky ??
Seriously.. I cant say. I spent 3 days creating a Non-Disclosure "paper" for people who visit us and physically see what is going on around here. Guess who was the first person to sign one... (John read the final draft and handed it to me to sign)...BASTARD. LOL We will have something. It will have the exact same quality. It will sell like hot cakes. It will be backed up with LIVE dyno numbers from multiple sources. B |
