I'm surprised with this being a common issue with a hefty price point for just a booster or rebuild someone hasn't made an adapter plate and ran a mechanical master cylinder, similar to Patrick motor sports fancy dual master setup.
My booster sticks and has been driving me insane as well, I will most likely design a plate and run a mechanical Wilwood to eliminate the booster entirely. |
@rwel, Thanks for the update. I actually drove the 911 yesterday for the first time in months and sure enough, the brakes were sticking on again. I have a spare booster I may send to Zims.

Earlier this week, I finally installed my new MC back into the car and successfully bled both the MC (on the bench) and then the brake lines. I haven't had time to drive it yet to test out the brakes and new MC, but am prepared for possibility that my brakes will stick again. Then, explore the Zims option. |

@rwel - congrats on getting your MC and BB sorted out! Thanks for posting update and your experience w Zims here.
I installed a new ATE MC as well. For the BB I drained/cleaned as best as I could (w/o opening the BB assembly). So not sure if brakes will stick again, but am prepared for that possibility. Then, go the Zims route. QUESTION: When you got back your BB from Zims, did they mask/cover the blue ATE sticker on the body before they painted it? Or did they paint over the sticker? Thanks! Quote:

Zim's booster rebuilder covered or otherwise masked off the blue ATE sticker prior to repainting the unit. The black paint looks alright, considering what it is and where it sits in the frunk. My car is a driver, not a show car. Honestly, I might have improved on the paint via patient surface prep, multiple coats, etc, but I am ok with the appearance. It looks like maybe they didn't let it dry thoroughly before wrapping it and sending back to Zim's. Mine had lost the rubber bellows-looking cover to protect the clevis end of the assembly, and they replaced it.

Another example of the "Porsche tax", I suppose. I will sheepishly admit I unknowingly drove it for over 2 years without boost (you compensate...no worse than 60's Jags or MGs I grew up with) and it sure takes less effort now. Having fixed my brakes, I'm moving on to other projects and might not regularly check this thread. If anyone has another question I can answer, feel free to message me. Cheers. |
