'73 911 2.4 alternator swap

I've seen the TSB for the later air cooled cars to swap to the alternators with the built in regulator instead of the outboard VR.

my alternator crapped out on my new project car, it's been sitting for 20 years.

Decided it was prudent to buy a new alternator and received a Valeo 101822

Deleted the VR, capped off the black wire.

When I turn the key on, the double blue wires that used to attach to the VR get Very, very hot.

I must have things hooked up wrong. B+ is the large res wire to the starter motor, grounded to the lug on the other side, blue wire to the other lug that has the black wire from that capacitor (?) pack

Appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.
