SC Bumpers

To all:
What are my options in replacing the bumpers on my 78 SC? I don't care for all of the rubber and accordians on them.
I took the rocker panels and rubber trim strips off, to get at my torsion bars, and would like to leave that stuff off and streamline the look a bit.

Street car, by the way.
Thanks in advance,
Pat

You can take the accordians and rubber bumpers off if you want, which makes for a nice look.

Pat,
Try the search button. (Fiberglass bumpers)
You should find hours of information there.
Fiberglass will also help with the cars diet.

Pat,
What is the down side of removing the black rocker trim piece or is there a down side. What shows when left off other than the T bar cover?

My car is in the paint shop now and I'd like to make some changes if possible to streamline.

If the accordian piece up front is left off...what is underneath? Are there glass replacement pieces which can be or need be installed in their place?

I saw lots of fiberglass and carbon fiber bumpers; some were really nice. I don't know what fits what, however. From what I could figure out on one website. there is a narrow style, and a wide style (Turbo?) Is an SC a narrow style, or does this pertain to the older models (which had longer hoods?)

Anyway, now that I just 10 minutes ago finished putting all of the front suspension back in (three weeks worth of rebuilding), and as soon as I finish the rear, I will remove the front bumper to see what's what with thw accordians and rubber strips, etc.

Maybe some nerf bars...

What's underneath? Just the bumper. But there are fiberglass pieces alike to the IROC spoilers, and also pieces that look completely stock, but weigh about a quarter of the stock bumpers weight.

I have two of these stock-looking bumpers - called bumper blades - that I am thinking of selling if anyone is interested.

A '78 SC is considered to be narrow in the front and has SC/Carrera flares in the back. 930s are wide body, both front and rear are 2" wider/side

You want a front and rear bumper cap to eliminate the accordians

this is my '76 Carrera which started w/ the same sort of bumpers that you have on your SC

There are several sources and styles, mine came from BW Motorsports, Ruf yellowbird style. Very pleased w/ them.

Do a search on yellowbird for others w/ similar cars.

The safety Nazis took control of NHSTA a few years prior, everyone was/is scrambling to keep them happy.
