AAV working or not?

Ok I have chasing down the cause of my high idle and think this could be the culpret. The AAV (non electrical valve) Won't close with a vacum tester shouldn't it? How do they work. And why the heck are they almost 200 bucks? I want to know how to tell if mine is junk or not. It basically looks like air flows through all the time. Hope some one can clarify this for me.

Ben,
The Auxilary Ai Valve usually has an electrical connection that heats up a coil internally that closes the valve. This is quicker than using engine heat to close the valve. The AAV is easy to check. Pull it off. At warm tempartures it sould be closed. Put it in the freezer for a while and then see if it opens. If it doesn't open when cold or closes when warm it needs replacing. Good Luck.

I thought that also but have since been corrected. It is the AAR that is the electrical one as it regulates the air flow. The AAV is either open or closed but not sure what makes that happen as it does not have a fitting like a decal valve.
