Chartreuse RS
Hey folks,
Am I correct in assuming the chartreuse RS for sale at www.carscene.net is the same car that was with the R-Gruppe at Monterey? If so, is it as nice in person as it appears from the photos?

Same car indeed. Presently for sale for $107K. I'll let the experts start a spirited thread about the condition.

Well, for $107 it better be pretty good because that is enough based on other prices I've seen to buy one and buy a replica to actually drive!

Personally from what I saw of it at Monterey, it's as nice as the pictures shown. A sunroof RS is certainly rare. To my eyes that color (also known as lime green) looked good in full sunlight, but when it was overcast, well out of respect to the owner, I'll just say it was different.

Decent ones in the $60's so I think $107 is a little strong. I could care less about the sunroof. Another potential pita problem. I've been there. No more for me.
Besides, it weighs more and what was an RS about in the first place. Sort of ironic. Turn a fast car into a pig with accessories.

Yes Curt, it was sold recently (not sure about it being on Ebay) by the owner advertising the lime green RS.

Now THAT was a nice S at about 1/2 the price of certain 'updated & restored' 72S Targas talked about lately .....

A PIG with accessories? a sunroof doensn't make it a pig. I think that car is completely awesome looking and I love the color in pictures but I wouldn't pay that much for it.

Perhaps "pig" is a bit strong but it's what I refer to when describing a car that is heavy-ish. (Just imagine a 911-R with a sunroof!)
Pumping the values on these cars is what this is all about. Once you establish a mark, it then invites all of the rest of the cars out there to try their luck with inflated prices. Have I paid up for cars? Yes, I have but I've been really lucky and it has not hurt me over the long run. The rule of thumb is that you can pay too much too soon. $107,000 is a little strong for this car but perhaps one day soon it won't be. In a climate of deflation and poor equity performance folks are putting money anywhere that they believe will turn a profit for them. Things will change, as there are no permanent trends (death and taxes excluded). And, lest we forget; cars, boats and motorcycles are not great investments. I'll bet that the money for the car plus expenses for 30 years would be worth something on the order of $200,000. But to paraphrase an aquaintance of mine who is a collector/economist/writer, you can't put value on the pleasure and pride of ownership. That's the wildcard to any valuation. So, does anyone want to loan $107,000 at favorable rates???

RS values
The owner recently bought this car for around $75,000. What's wrong with "flippin-it" in a short period and making 25-30% profit. I'm as rightous about Capitalism as the next businessman. I hope he gets his price...he'll definitely want to buy something else, because he's not going to the bank with his deposit, and I highly doubt to the stock market...."and the big wheel keeps on turnin"

And $75k is a figure closer to reality but still at the high water mark imho.

...funny that this got cycled through again but what is even funnier or at least interesting is CamB's comment.
"Presently for sale for $107K Well, for $107 it better be pretty good because that is enough based on other prices I've seen to buy one and buy a replica to actually drive!" Today Good Replica RS is approaching $107K and maybe even surpassing.
