What is this 911 worth?

A friend called and said he knows of a 76 911S for sale.
He was told the car has a 1984 3.2 motor in it. The motor has
35,000 miles on it. The whole car has 93,000 miles on it.
The car is a coupe. The body is supposed to be in good shape.
I have no knowledge of the quality of the engine installation.
Any opinions on this cars worth would be helpful. Also. any words of warning, encouragement or even any wise ass comments will be passed on to my friend. Thanks
JoeF

8,000 maybe to probably, 18,000 very unlikely.

You can get a true 3.2L carrera for less than 18K. Why would anyone pay for a 76S that has been bastardized with a 3.2L engine.

My friend seems to remember the owner saying the 84 3.2 motor is an RS motor, Is this likley? does this change the value much?

The only motor differences that I am aware of for the '84-89 3.2 L are the difference between the ROW and the US model, and then the change to the clubsport model.

The ROW model had higher comp ratio but was otherwise basically the same, and the clubsport had lighter intake valves (sodium filled) so the redline could be raised to give more leeway if you needed a few more revs coming out of a corner before a shift. I have heard the clubsports were balanced and so made a tad more unofficial power. They were, however, rated the same. And the clubsport was only available in some of the G50 years, 88 and 89 I think, so that wouldn't fit your friends story.

Check it out, get a PPI from a mechanic and a body shop, it may be a great car. To say what it is probably worth if the motor is sound and the body and interior are in great shape I think 10-12K.

Seems highly unlikely. I may be wrong but, the only "RS" model I'm aware of for '84 was the "SC/RS". Very few were built (25?-30?), almost a total race car but street legal, used a specially built and tuned 3.0 liter engine. If you could even find one it would probably be worth well over $100K.

Ya I would say 10-12K maybe a little more if it has some nice bits on it, i.e. h4s turbo tie rods, 16x9 Fuchs or FIKSE wheels stuff like that.

I'd say offer them $5k or less and see if they bite.
