Long way from Florida to Canada. Where are you?

Shawn at true6 will do it. He’s in Mass

Not a hard job at all…diy. Seriously, disassemble, degrease, diagnosis and repair, replace a few seals after re-greasing and reassemble. Seriously it’s only a few hour job once on the bench.

Just here in case any useful rebuild threads pop up...

I rebuilt my own steering rack on my '84 911 a few years back.
There was only one worn piece in it. I had a friend machine one out of self lubricating brass and it's been good every since.

This is the worn piece.

On my rack there’s play in the steering arm shaft. The mechanic and I pulled the tie rod boots back, went ahead and grabbed the shaft going up and down and side to side and it has play. Not sure if there’s bearing or seals holding the shaft in place.
What are your thoughts?

That means all of us need to have a friend who has a lathe, a mill, and the skills to use it and then to receive compensation in the form of a six pack.

I don't have one of those. He moved.

Or one pelican who will make up a bunch at once and sell them off.

Can I pull out the steering rack with the crossmember in place?

Yes, you’ll need to loosen the crossmember bolts a bit for clearance however.

Anyone know the thread pitch on the two M10 x 45 steering rack bolts? 1.25? or 1.50? Certainly not 1.0.

David Inc. 11-22-2022 12:08 PM

Almost certainly 1.5. I think the parts catalog is usually pretty good about calling out non-standard thread pitch for fine thread bolts.
