3.2 “conversion” wiring help

First question

Car is 1985, however the wiring harness and motor and ecu are 89.

On the chassis harness there is a 3 wire plug. Yellow, black with purple, and one black
On the engine side of harness there is 4 wire plug, yellow, black with purple, two black wires

What is extra black wire?

I had to get a new phone so disassembly pics are gone

I have one black wire and one red and green wire that go to fuse box. Can anyone tell me which fuse

I'll see if I can look into it when I have time, but there were some changes in the wiring harness in each year. The DME was upgraded in the later models.

Black /purple should be tach. The extra black should for 12v for the alarm so the fuel pump comes on.I will look for the conversion paperwork as it has been a while.Fred

Next week I will be doing an oil change and tuneup on a friends '87. I can take some pictures. The Rd/Grn in the harness goes to the fuse panel and then the fuel pump. I'll get a picture of his fuse panel directory.
I will be away for the weekend, but here is some information from my '86 conversion.

Jim,
Things were busy lately but I am finally taking car of my friends '87 Carrera.
If you still need help with the wiring let me know. If it helps here are pictures of the fuse panel and directory. The Rd/Grn goes to fuse 6, which is right under the Red relay.

Jim,
Just finished checking it out. Tough to trace wires packed behind the fuse panel but this seems to be it on his 1987. Red fuse and mounting screw are removed to pull out the fuse block a bit.
There are minor wiring differences along the years.

The 'extra' black wire on the DME harness would normally run to terminal 87a on the alarm control unit. The alarm wasn't standard on the early Carrera so that is likely why it is missing on the chassis side connector. It provides 12V to terminal 86 on the DME relay. On the 85 it looks like the black wire comes straight from fuse 8 to terminal 86 on the DME relay.
