Squeaky Belt
No sooner do I speak in another Pelican's thread about fan issues than I start having some myself!
It's a beautiful Saturday morning. I start my car, sitting inside with a foot on the gas because I still haven't gotten around to installing one of those hand throttle doohickeys. My car slowly starts squeaking. I know this sound. This is the sound it made at the start of the whole "fan exploding" situation. So I pull off the half-pulley and inspect. Six shims. No damage to fan or pulley. Everything seems snug. Put it back together, still squeaks. It's not a huge amount of noise, and it goes away at higher RPMs, but I'm a little paranoid about it after the last thousand dollar repair bill. Can anyone offer more things to inspect? |

Remove the belt and start your engine. If it doesn’t squeak it is highly likely it’s alternator bearings.

I spray stuff called belt dressing on noisy fan belts. It also keeps the rubber good, prevents slip, but mainly shuts them up.
