Squeaky Belt

No sooner do I speak in another Pelican's thread about fan issues than I start having some myself!

It's a beautiful Saturday morning. I start my car, sitting inside with a foot on the gas because I still haven't gotten around to installing one of those hand throttle doohickeys. My car slowly starts squeaking. I know this sound. This is the sound it made at the start of the whole "fan exploding" situation. So I pull off the half-pulley and inspect. Six shims. No damage to fan or pulley. Everything seems snug. Put it back together, still squeaks.

It's not a huge amount of noise, and it goes away at higher RPMs, but I'm a little paranoid about it after the last thousand dollar repair bill. Can anyone offer more things to inspect?

Remove the belt and start your engine. If it doesn’t squeak it is highly likely it’s alternator bearings.

I spray stuff called belt dressing on noisy fan belts. It also keeps the rubber good, prevents slip, but mainly shuts them up.
